How do I save textures in their original size

I've found some really nice textures I'd like to use on clothing. Not necessarily clothing produced on photoshop but sometimes just adding the texture to articles of clothing in game. However, when I do that invariably the texture is horribly distorted. Any tips on how to keep the texture in its original visual form?

Thanks!!!

The reason the texture distorts when you apply it as clothing is because it is being applied to numerous stretchable polygons that, as a whole, make up the surface area of your 3D avatar. LL supplies templates that assist you in mapping textures to your avatar. Look in the "Downloads" section of the menubar at the top of this page and you will find them.

Thanks, I use the templates already when making clothes with Photoshop. I was asking more along the lines of is there a way of altering or saving the textures that I download using one of the paint programs that would make the texture less likely to distort when placed on the regular clothing made from appearance view. Man that was a mouthful lol. Hope you get what I'm asking

Jana about the best you can do is look at the distortion on your av and go into your graphics program and make the texture smaller or narrower in the areas that stretch bigger or wider for example. it takes practice but you can fix alot of problems that way. one thing tho.......if your av has big breasts you're going to have some distortion no matter what. that's just what happens when clothes are all skin tight. :D

The solution to your problem is not easy Jana. I use a distortion cancellation method for my skins, but I feel it's not the best thing for clothing. If you are familiar with noise cancellation and how it creates a negative sound wave to cancel a positive wave, a similar thing can be done with images. I use Hman Software's "Squizz" plugin for Photoshop to do this. It gives me the ability to control distortion on a fairly detailed mesh. I can apply a negative distortion to my texture to somewhat counter the effects of avatar distortion. I squeeze areas that are expanded mostly because this adds a smoother flow without loss in detail. I tend not to expand areas that are squeezed, as this only eliminates detail. This works well for skins with relatively stable skin tight distortion. Clothing is altogether another issue with "Bagginess" and "Flare". There are too many slider variations that people use with clothing. Matching distortion for all those settings is too much of a compromise. All I can say past this point is experiment, innovate, and educate yourself. You may yet come up with a solution that no one has thought of :)
