I just got Photoshop CS4 Extended to help me texture the sculpties I make with Sculpt Studio. After making the texture using the 3D functionality and uploading it to SL, I have to rotate the texture 180 degrees to align it to the sculpty correctly.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe skipping a step?
I am loading the OBJ file I get from Sculpt Studio into Photoshop.

I've never used Sculpt Studio, but it sounds like it's messing up its UV mapping for surface textures. It's probably got its negatives and positives swapped in the mapping values. Photoshop cannot change that, so I doubt it's anything you're doing wrong.

Photoshop cannot change that, so I doubt it's anything you're doing wrong. That's a good point. I will make a test sculpty tonight with an obvious left and right, fore and aft design and see how Photoshop renders it. Everything I have tried so far is symmetrical.

Cherre, it will probably look just fine in PS, and you still might find that you need to rotate the map in world. As Chosen said, it's all a matter of ordering, and the differences aren't always apparent. In my experience, the most common reordering necessary is a horizontal flip. If your sculpts are perfectly symmetrical, you might get the same result by rotating 180°. I dunno. To test it, I suggest, instead of making a new sculpt, you simply use one of the test textures that has type on it. I have one, and Chosen has a much better one. (Chosen, can you post a link to it, please?) That will tell you if it's flipped. Or just make a layer with some type when you're making the texture in PS CS4. I frequently find that the type is flipped in there, but fine in world, when I'm texturing things made with Sculpt Studio. Hope this helps! Robin Edit: So, the very next post that I looked at, Chosen had included his texture! You'll find it in /109/ca/341891/1.htmlGrab a copy, even if you don't need it for this. It's very handy for all kinds of things!

I'd actually recommend this one for general purpose use: /109/45/214824/1.htmlThe one Robin linked is dodecimal. It's meant for helping to see where the faces are on spheres, tubes, and toruses. It doesn't work very well for general texture alingment purposes, since the repeat and offset settings are decimal, not dodecimal. The pattern in the link I just posted here is decimal, so it works much more easily. It some point I'll whip up a 32x32 one, which will show where the faces are on regular sculpties.
