So, I've done some textures of my own before, and following the tutorials here, have been doing some practice with alpha transparencies.. now I'm trying my hand at some hair textures, and I'm made some in photoshop CS2, and the issue I have is when I get the textures imported into game, and so far I haven't done this with any alpha channels at all for transparencies.. and for the hair ends to look right on some of the prim hair I'm trying to work with.. I assume they should be transparent, with a fringe sort of look being done.. and I wondered any tips on how to best do this.. where I put my transparent layer, etc. I got the hair texture video at taunt.com on the other thread to get me started at least some basic techniques.. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hm, guess no one can offer any tips on applying alpha transparencies to hair textures.. okay, I'll just go eye the tutorials again, thanks. As I said, found the tutorials here helpful, and especially the video one at taunt, but when I try to apply the texture, I know I'm getting it wrong as it all opague and any ends I want to look transparent, invisible prims I guess, at tne ends for the hair fringe, all show up.

Psyche, I assume your problem is with transparency and not with the qualities of the texture itself. Therefore I suggest you focus on the various alpha channel tutorials such as the one stickied at the top of this forum.
One tip that may be helpful if you are properly creating your alpha channel but still not seeing transparency in SL: in Photoshop make sure you save your texture as a 32-bit image (not 24-bit). If you do not save as 32-bit, your alpha-channels are not saved with the image. If you continue to have troubles, message me in-world. I would be happy to help.

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I saved it as a 32 bit targa, and thought I had done the steps in the tutorial right but apparently, I'm still doing something wrong.. for now, the quality of the texture isn't my top concern, though yes, I'm still working with that as well.. I'm going a two layer hair with the base color over the bottom, done as per the video tutorial on taunt.com, and then adding tips on the hair, another layer on top of that.. and when I apply these to the prim hair in world, I know I still need the tips and such of it transparent to not appear 'blobby' at the ends and such where I want fringe.
