I bought some lace to use on a shirt I was making. It was quite beautiful in game. Transparent and everyting. When I downloaded the tga I noticed the 1 layer was black, and the alpha channel was where the texture for it was. How do I convert/modify/whatever this so that it appears like a transparent black piece of lace to then use as a layer on top of a shirt (that has its own alpha channel for shape and trasparency) I just made in photoshop? Is there a tutorial out there I am missing? The lace and fishnet in the library also appears this way. How do we make these usable in phtoshop? Any help would be great!!!! I am pulling hairs here heh... -Lizzie

basically the first channels define the color, (black for you) and the alpha define the degree of transparency, (for lace its more or less the essential)
if you want to mix it to a shirt , you will need to modify this alpha so the shirt parts appear plain and lace parts appear like the original lace
not sure how to explain better ^_^

not sure if it helped lol. Um is there a way to make what I see in game, also what I see in photoshop? as a layer that I can copy onto my original shirt. I tried invert, but then I'd still have to erase the background which if that was the case, I might as well go find my own image on the web and erase the background to make it a transparent layer. I want to see what I see in game, inside photoshop, if this is possible?

LOL reply on my reply, um I am guessing I need to use masks on the layers somehow? Since I can only have one alpha channel (being the shape of my shirt)... just have to figure out how to do this

so you got a solid black image and an alpha channel for lace and you want to end up with some lace with the transparent parts cut out? control-click on the alpha channel to make a selection based on it. go back to the all black layer and copy with control-c. then just paste that into your new clothing and you should have nice transparent lace you can mess around with.

Thank you! A friend logged in and we came up with this solution for anyone else who ever has this problem: Go to the actual lace .tga file. Click on the alpha tab, select all, copy into a transparent layer on the file you have made the shirt in. Next find the alpha channel with the embedded texture, copy the alpha channel into your original tga file with the shirt as a new transparent layer. Next using the magic wand, hilight an area you want transparent (since it is black from the alpha channel) then go up to Select and choose similar. This will hilight the background to the layer that was originally black. After you do this you are left with a white lace texture, go to image, adjust, invert to make it black again. then you now have your lace texture as it was seen in game. So basically I was reversing what the person did in alpha channels to get back to the original lace texture!!!! Thank you for getting me on the right track and thank you Nightspy Rebus in game for finding the rest of the solution! -Lizzie
