I have two questions I'm interested in understanding.

I was wondering in photo shop is there anyway you can add like a silk effect to a texture you already have without removing colour or pattern and patterns into solid colours how do you achieve that?

Thanks

I have a tutorial on how to add a silk effect to any photoshop file. Also see my tutorial on applying patterns etc.

Hi thanks for the answers though they are not really what i was looking for sorry:(.

I'm trying to find a way to make the silk effect appear on a texture i want to use. So i have the coloured texture and i want to try make it look like a silky texture. Can i do that without changing my texture.

The changing colour though was what i was looking for. Thank you:)

Rhianna
if you follow the steps for the silk that she posted, then instead of changing the hue, keep it on the grey, and make that layer an overlay over top of the texture layer, it will give it a silky look

(hope that makes sense)

and of course depending on your preferences, you do not have to completely do all the steps shown

I usually only do an overlay layer of 50% grey and burn and dodge on that layer, so it will not touch my main color or texture layer

I burn, dodge, and smudge until I get the look I want, then I will duplicate that layer, to strengthen it, you can also adjust the sharpness on a layer of the 50% grey, or the levels, etc

the nice thing about using the overlay, is you do not touch the main color layers at all...

Also if you follow the silk tutorial - it shows you how to create "adjustment layers" to create the silken texture. Curves is the one that will create the "sheering" that creates the illusion of silk or satin. Once you have the silky texture (folds etc) you can take your texture and use it as an overlay or hardlight mode to make it look like it is silky but has the pattern.

There are about a hundred different ways to create the look you want - you will have to experiment and try out a few. The work-flow I created is so that you don't "destroy" your main file and can change the pattern, color etc., quickly and even use layer comps.

Like the previous poster said you could even use the "silk" layer as an overlay - but in my opinion I really do not like that as much as using the texture and color as overlays. The depth and detail you get will be easier to control.

Sometimes you even need one or two different "shading" layers to bring out the highlights. Hopefully that helps. I would practice with those tutorials a few times until you come to a work-flow that works well for you.

You should post a image of what you are trying to do verses what you have done - maybe we can help you more effectively. :)

Thanks for the tutorials! They are quite helpful to me.

I am trying to learn how to make clothes. Trying to understand how to add textures and such to the the UVs. What I don't understand is how to adjust the textures appropriately. I really wish SL had a way to adjust texture on clothing pieces similar to what is done for building. Sure make things a lot easier.
