Hi there -
Im new to SL & having a hard time finding anyone to help me so I hope this is the place to get the info I need :).
Im trying to make a realistic skin map. Everything comes out perfect except for the eye region . Eye lashes are what Im mainly having a problem with . I dont know if Im missing an area on the map that designates where the lashes are or what . No matter what I try the lashes come out the color of the avs skin when apply the texture in SL . If anyone knows how i can work around this problem that would be fantastic as Ive spent all my lindens testing the texture . :( Thankyou ahead of time ~ Amber

I feel your pain. If you look at the head template, all the white area outside the various head parts needs to be left transparent or your eyebrows will end up with your skin color. Where exactly the eyelashes are on the template I can't seem to figure out for the life of me.

..but i don't think there is a place to texture eye-lashes. they're just a slider-controlled feature.. something that could be textured, but there is no designated place for applying them; therefore, there is no texture map for them.

..i think :D

Well the strange thing is ,when I apply the map the eyelashes pick up the skin color, even if i define the area that I think should be where the eyelashes lay in black or brown. What I did is move the lash slider bar so no lashes apppear , but i still get that out line of skin tone :(. Eventually ill get it , but UHHHHHG ..its drivin me nuts :P. It would be nice if they were a seperate feature like the eyes are.
Thanx so much for responding to my question ~Amber

You're kinda right Cybin, but the eyelashes depend on a specific part of the texture map for the head being transparent. Where exactly that spot is I can't figure out, but if you apply a fully opaque texture to the head it ends up on the lower lashes too. I *think* it's in the empty space under the chin, but where ever it is, it's very close to one of the outside edges (head part edges, not texture edges). A little too much bleed and you hose the lashes.

this is actually quite a significant find if i'm not mistaken..

has anyone actually figured this out so precisely before?

if so, has it been shared with anyone else?

are there other texture secrets we don't know about?

..hmm, sounds like i'll have to come back aorund the same time tomorrow and tune into the same channel. ;D

I dont know how much of a secret it was , but boy it sure helped me !! In all honesty if I wasnt so lazy and had cut clean edges I would have never had this problem ;).
Still having a few problems with skin tones and such ...nothing ever looks the same when you apply it to the model -
Lizard skin would have been a much funner project!! Maybe next time :). Im with you monde on the texturing secrets for SL...if anyone has any Im all ears & if I can help anyone with anything in this department give me a shout!! ~Amber

I can't take any credit for this bit of arcane knowledge, hehe. It was the brilliant Mistress Midnight who explained it to me when I'd messed up the eyelashes on one of my skins. Thanks Mis! :)
