How do i apply a texture or a color to just one side of an object? (I'm new to this)

Use the select texture tool. It can be found in the select section of the edit window.
Oh, and you can shift click to set multiple texture faces at once. _____________________

Alternatly, you can drag a texture strait from inventory right onto the face of the object.
