Hello :)

Will someone please explain to me how to make ‘sheer’ textures? I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out. I know it’s probably something simple that I’m just missing.

Thank you in advance!

What is a "sheer" texture? Something that maps to a "shear"ed prim?

Sheer... somewhat transparent, but not fully. Filmy. Diaphanous :) Oooo big word.

I see. Do you want to put a mesh of holes in it? Or should it just be transparant? You can use the transparancy settings in the texture tab of the edit window to set texture transparancy.

I know how to use alpha channels to make portions fully transparent.

An example: say I make a shirt and want to make a circle in the middle of it look like it’s made out of a thin, flimsy material, but want the rest of the shirt to remain opaque.

I don't know how to do that.

You can set the percentage of transparency on your alpha when exporting/merging, no?

Aplha channels are grayscale. Use a shade of gray to make something opaque.

Great, thank you. I'll play around with that this weekend :)
