I'd like to get a closer look at some textures to get an idea as to how to make my own look better. Any way to do this?

Contact the creator and ask them. That's the only legal way of taking the textures off of any item, full perms or not.

Go to a texture store and buy some good ones to examine. Or pay a texture artist to tutor you. But please don't try to steal copies of textures from full-perm freebies. If the artist didn't include the texture in the contents of the item, they didn't intend to give away that texture as a freebie. Yes, it is possible to steal detailed textures from an in-world item, even if it is not full perms. But doing so is taking something that you don't have permission to take. Even if your own motivations are just to learn, we won't post details in the Forums on how to rip off textures, because many others would use that information as a thief's tool.

Just because you have full perms on the whole object does not mean you have rights to any of the individual components (textures, scripts, etc.). If you want the textures, the best thing to do is contact the creator of the object, and ask if he/she is willing to share them. If he/she says yes, great. But if the answer is no, be prepared to accept that decision.
That said, anything that can be drawn on screen can be captured. I'm not going to explain how to do it, though, sorry. Hopefully no one else will either. It's not exactly a secret, but it's not generally something we talk about here. To capture textures from an object without the object-creator's permission would be to commit IP theft (even if you're intentions are honorable). And even though there's no technical way to prevent texture theft, there's also no reason to make it any easier than it needs to be.

OK, understood. Sorry, didn't realize that I was tap-dancing into a minefield there. I'll take the above advice re: the texture stores and such.

Abel,
A better resource might be to look up Photoshop tutorials outside of SL.
In particular, look for information on creating "seamless textures".
If you are talking clothing textures, there are several tutorials, notably on some of the designers' blogs.
