I need help. I bought a couple of male skins now and something very weird is going on. I need a male model, so i use a body that i have had a long time.. and decided to buy some new skin, to update.. any way.. I have bought 3 skins.. from 3 different places.
All of them create a huge knobby chin on the face. I tried like 4 different male body shapes i have. and all of them end with the same thing.. a HUGE knobby chin.
So, i tried it on my female body and it doesn't have that effect. I tried everything i could think of to reduce the chin shape.. and no matter what the chin juts out like a cartoon... think the old dick tracy cartoon.. and you got it.
Is anyone else experiencing this? What can be done to get rid of it.

Is the knobby chin actually knobby? By that I mean does it jut out as a result of the shapes you're using or is it the way the skins are shaded that make it look like it does? Skins can't affect avatar shape at all, but their shading can have a pretty dramatic effect on the way a shape looks.

it is knobby.. like from any angle ..this is nuts.. right now im using the nicholaz viewer.. but i went to the sl veiwer and looked at it from there and it still is knobby..
i took a pic with a cheap freebie skin.. so you can see its not just the appearance of a knob.. but a true Knob.
i attached the pics..

Totally random, a guy friend had that and I got them to change their bald and it didn't look like that anymore. *shrug*

Yep, that's unrelated to the skin. Something is glitching the shape. You can try changing the avatar default hair and see if that clears it up. That shouldn't have anything to do with the chin, but it does affect the shape since it controls the position of the eyebrows. If that doesn't do it you'll need to go through a process of elimination to find out what's causing it. Maybe the AO?

It's the hair that's doing it. There's several settings in non-prim hair for facial hair, and one of them does precisely that distortion.
Open Appearance, and check the settings for the hair style.

Default avatar hair works the same way skins do in that whatever one you have on stays on until you replace it with a different one. At some point you put one on (probably as part of a folder or outfit) that had those chin settings. I'd completely forgotten that facial hair settings were embedded in default hair.

The main reason I know is because I have a male alt that wears a full beard... *grins*
The way the LL Avatar deals with non-prim hair is strange, at best, when it comes to facial hair.
Hair on the head has its own texture in the Appearance settings, and uses that texture to color the part of the avatar where you extend the hair past the skull. "Hair", like "Eyes", is a seperate part of the avatar from the general body shape, even though it is controlled by the appearance sliders in a manner very similar to the body shape.
But although _facial_ hair settings are also part of the non-prim hair item in inventory, they only distort the surface of the face. You have to use a skin texture that matches where you want the facial hair to be, and then you can 'fluff up' that beard and moustache with the hair's slider settings. Facial hair doesn't use the "hair" texture. It uses the skin's head texture.

By the way, if you were to just change the gender of that male av in Appearance to female, the bulbous chin would seem to vanish, until you switched him back to male. That's because the facial hair settings are, like the breast size settings, gender specific. Males suppress the breast settings, and females suppress the beard settings. The slider settings are still there, but not rendered if the gender seems inappropriate for it.
I guess if you wanted to do a "Bearded Lady" avatar, or a bearded hermaphrodite, you'd have to make a prim beard for hir. Can't have the avatar facial hair and breasts at the same time.
