Good Sources for Public Domain Images?

Any know of any? Most of my stuff is original work, but sometimes there are things that my drawing skills just aren't up to, and I don't want to steal someone else's work. (And I sell what I make, so pictures with a "you can take this as long as it's not for commercial purposes" copyleft license are no good.)

Thanks!

P.S. Right now, I'm in specific need of an image of climbing roses on a trellis. If anyone knows where I can find one of those, I'd greatly appreciate it!

http://www.flickr.com has a huge imagebase, searchable by keyword and a tendency in that community to afford Creative Commons licenses for the images they post. For example, a quick search for "rose trellis" yielded http://www.flickr.com/photos/mauri212/23271279/ which has Creative Commons license terms "Attribution", "Non-Commercial", "No Derivatives" attached to it. However, as flickr points out, "Your fair use and other rights are in no way affected by the above"; better still, you can contact the photographer explain your intended use, and likely get explicit permission.

There is some debate among the SL texturers as to the meaning of "Fair Use" with regard to SL, so I'd play it safe and just ask. If my experience with that community is representative, the photographer would likely be thrilled that you wanted to use it. The "non-commercial" and "no derivatives" are often used to keep stock photo firms from snagging the image and selling it.

http://sxc.hu - registration is free, and the usage restrictions are posted with each photo, a lot of it being free to use with no restrictions.

Came across http://www.imageafter.com/ recently. The stuff's of varying quality, but mostly it's pretty high res and there's quite a lot of it.

I found http://www.mayang.com/textures/ pretty useful. All their textures can be used for anything, but they only let you download 20 per day.

I used several of their images for my former firehouse and my current 'tropical museum looking' store (w/reflection pool!!) :) . I know they have vines and stuff somewhere in there, but I don't know whether or not they have roses.

I've found http://www.grsites.com/textures/ very useful. Free and you can manipulate the textures online :)

While this is being bumped, let me point to Yotophoto.com. Though not enormously thorough, it's pretty good. It's a search engine for public domain/GNU FDL/CC/etc. photos, and combs through a few of the sites listed in this thread.
