I need a screen texture. I know how to make it, but I am not sure how to get the white squares see through (like a real screen). Can anyone help? The pic attached might explain it better. This is the screen I made.

If your image is a clean transition from white to black (no grey or antialiased pixels inbetween), convert your image to a floating layer, then select "Color Range" and set it to the white area with the eyedropper. make sure the transition is set to a low value just incase it grabs some extra pixels. "Cut" the selected pixels away and you should have the black checker pattern on a transparent backround.

Just did a "Threshold" transform on your JPEG and ran the adjusts on it to clean it up and make the white transparent. Here you go :)

Photoshop 7 Texture Question

I saved your image as jpeg to import into SL, but in game as a texture, its no different then what mine looked like. The white is not transparent, it still shows as white.

Make sure you have the 7.01 patch installed. 7 botched the way alpha is handled in TGA files.

JPEG can't support transparencies, and Chip is right, PS 7.0 needs an upgrade to 7.01 to properly do 32 bit TGA files. TGA files are the only image file format that you can import into SL and keep the transparent alpha channel intact.

Updating PS 7.0

Do u need the CD to update? My copy of PS was installed on my computer by someone at school. Ive since moved and am no longer in contact with him. (Yes, it was a legal copy of PS.) I tried updating to 7.0.1 but its saying to reinstall PS. What shall I do now without buying a new copy?

Technically, that really isn't a legal copy unless it is licensed for multiple systems. If it is part of a classroom software installation, then you should contact that friend/instructor and get the serial number and a legal copy of the original software on CD. Beyond that, you may just have to buy your own copy of PS to make the upgrade, in which case, you'd be getting PS CS or 9.0 and the 7.01 upgrade would no longer be needed.

Updating PS 7.0

Thx for the info. I have no way to reach my friend from school. I have the serial number for my PS, can I buy just the upgrade of CS or do I need the fresh copy? Either way, I can't get any upgrade until May or so. Can anyone fix my texture for me and post it here as a TGA? I'd really appreciate it.

If it's the same one I just did. Then I'll inventory drop it to you in SL.

PS 7 patch
03-16-2005 05:55
Lou, you can still download and install the PS 7.01 patch... I had a similar situation and it worked fine. The patch can be found on the Adobe site.

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows

This is for Windows, but there is a Mac page as well.
