I don't know PSP but I do know Photoshop like the back of my hand, so I'll try to help you out.
I think what you're asking is how to create the alpha channel for the actual clothing. To do that, you need to make a selection from the alpha channel layer in the Layers palette. In Photoshop its a Ctrl or Alt click of the layer in the palette (I'm on a Mac and we use the Command (Apple) key for that sort of thing). You may also try right clicking the layer and seeing if there is a Make Selection option or something. Next you need to go to the Channels palette and fill that with white or black. In Photoshop, white = "I wanna keep this" and black = "clear" when it is uploaded and previewed in SL. Remember to fine tune your mask (that's what the black and white Channel is being used for) and save as a 32 bit Targa (.TGA) file. |

You should attend a Clothing tutorial inworld! Check out the Events calendar on the Second Life Community page on the website (or the Events button inworld when SL comes back online).

I use PSP9 so hopefully I can help you. You said you had your shirt template and a texture open. Ok, click on the texture and then right click -> copy. Minimize that one. Click on your template and right click -> paste. At this point it will or should prompt you as to HOW you want to paste. Select PASTE AS NEW LAYER. Or an option similar.
Don't be afraid to test out different options. The way I just told you to copy and paste is what I figured out when I was frustrated, others may do it differently, but that is what I have found works best for me. I am not a wiz at PSP, but I will try to help you as much as I can. I am still new to this also and I have come to the realization that if I want to learn anything I have to just keep clicking on stuff until I get it the way I want it. LOL Good Luck! |

As for the magic wand: that only is good for selecting areas of a certain color range. For example, if you click on a blue pixel, it will select other blue pixels.
At the top of your photoshop window you can change the tolerance so that it is more or less strict when selecting pixels (as far as how close they are in color to your original pixel) and you can tell it to be contiguous or not (select only the pixels *touching* the original one, or anywhere in the image at all). This is a great tool for selecting flat color areas, but for more exact selecting, experiment with the lasso tools. Good luck! |

When using the magic wand make sure you selected the right layer !

It's very hard to try to walk you through step by step when it's not completely clear what your problem is.
I suggest you try to read the tutorial Willow pointed you to again. The best way to become familiar with a complex program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro is through trial and error, and just clicking on the different tools to see what they do. We can't make your shirt for you. And chances are, the shirt you might make today isn't going to be something you're happy with -- I know it took me countless tries before I made anything remotely satisfactory, LOL. Use your PS 6; it will have the most tutorials readily available. Good luck. _____________________

To my knowledge Evil it doesnt support the same functions as PS or PSP9 Shadow yeah neither does Adobe PhotoEssentials... they stripped it out to lower the price. PS and Paintshop Pro and Gimp are the primary ones. |

PSP online Tutorials
02-04-2005 06:45
Gina,
As a newbie, I empathize with you. I have learned how to make alpha channels work for furniture, windows and the like, but clothes -- can't figure it out. I am currently going through a wonderful online tutorial which may help: http://www.putertutor.net/paint/psp8.htm If I figure it out, I will let you know. Also, there was someone in SL who was offering to teach PSP users how to design clothes via yahoo chat. It was about the time of the great SL meltdown, i.e. at the beginning of the year. I got involved in other things and lost the thread. If I find it again, I will post her name as well. We WILL learn this! |
