So I'm familiar with alpha channels and .tga files and all that...

...well, all of a sudden tonight...for no reason...my Photoshop stopped asking me if I wanted a 12, 24, or 32 bit Targa...and won't upload any .tga I save successfully to SL (SL says "try saving as a 24 bit .tga)....

...anyone know what's goin' on?

Are you working in a mode other than RGB?

This happened to me when my image was in greyscale. So once I changed it to RGB it worked fine. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for pointing it out!

Hey, wait a minute...I thought I read in one of the SL guides that it is preferable to save your .tga files in greyscale so you can change the tint in SL. Is this not a possibility? How DO you get SL to upload greyscale textures?

Just go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate.

However, more often than not, things that have been tinted in Second Life don't look as good as things that have been recolored in Photoshop.

Yeah, true to their desat source, they often feel... monochromatic. Unless you're going for a certain sort of look. ;)

So, the images are greyscale, but the image mode is not greyscale. Okay, thanks.

I'll definately keep in mind the desat warning. I'm slowly turning towards doing my own unalterable colors and designs anyway.

Thanks.

Now to post in the alpha channel threads. (I'll get this texturing stuff figured out yet!)
