I got a song into .waf format, but then it tells me I can't upload a sound file longer than ten seconds. Can somebody please tell me how to do it?

How Do I Make Music?

Well, see, sometimes a man and a woman love each other SOOOOOOOO much that they go and do this.

Zindorf, SL only allows 10 second sound files. In order to do music you need to split the wave file into 10 second chunks, upload them all, then use a script to play them in sequence. I think there are a couple of different music scripts in the scripting library.

I still cannot understand why it's not possible to upload MIDI files. This seems to me to be a crazy omission.

MIDI is a protocol for transmitting instrument control messages. Assuming you meant to say "General MIDI," you'll find that even that supposed "standard" isnt' really standardized. A "general MIDI" standard midi file will play completely differently on one manufacture's synth than on the next's. It is the audio equivalent of sending images with "red," "green," "blue," and other colors, only, there's no standard for what exactly "red" means, and so it looks differently on different computers. (Don't get me started on gamma offset differences!).

General MIDI died for all practical purposes around 1998, anyway, when developers realized they'd have more control over the end-user's experience if they just threw a bunch of digital audio through the D/A.

Mainly becuase MIDI sounds like .... - go check Activeworlds if you want a reason why MIDI is horrible.

The MOD/Tracker formats would be a better choice (S3M, IT, FT, MOD, etc.)
