Ok I have banged my head on this all night, I must be missing somthing but I cant see what. I followed Robins tutorial on alphas to try to eliminate the halo effect. I added the under layer and made it opaque but afte I saved it and uploaded the part that i made as the under layer is now part of my skirt. did I just make it too big or did I miss a step?
I am trying to make a skirt that rests lower on the hips. the first one had white halo but was masked correctly so that it fit in the right spot . Now I have no halo but its no longer masked how I wanted it.
Thanks all

Either you deleted your alpha channel somehow or else maybe you forgot to save as 32-bit the second time around. Another possiblity is you may have more than one alpha channel in your image. Any one of these three things would destroy transparency.

Chosen, I'm not going to laugh this time as you deserve the respect from most of us. I have a feeling Sparkle is probably asking something else. Its the ugly whitish halo around the edges of alpha textures (like those ugly 'no shooting' signs at the sandboxes). Maybe you can help by putting it in another way.

Chosen's detective work seems to be heading in the right direction to me.

instead of a white background

instead of having a white background , make the background black after you have made the alpha channel, the merge linked, and then flatten and save as a TGA

Sparkle, could you please tell me which tutorial you are following? I have several. If you could tell us which version of PS, too, that would be great. So would a screen shot, so we can see what the problem is.
It's hard to do diagnostics when there's not enough information in the post to tell us exactly what you did.
Sometimes, when we know what version, what tutorial, and what the thing actually looks like, the answer is obvious to those of us with a lot of experience (mostly because we've seen that, in our own work, and know how to fix it.)
But, without that information, we're just taking stabs in the dark, really.
So, if you could let us know?
