Hi... I am new to second life, but I have made 3d cothes and other typed of things for other 3d chat worlds. I know you cannot import 3d or other models into this chat world, but I am interested in knowing about the uv maps or templates. For example, can I get a 3d model of a skirt and make a uv map of it in a program such as UV Mapper pro and then import it as a .tga file and use it here in the program somehow? Or, where do the people who have so kindly provided the uv map templates make them ? Are they done in poser? I would like to know how to bring new maps into the game if possible.
Thanks... Lacy217

Hi Lacy The templates were made using the downloadable avatar models that you can find in the downloads section of the SL website. They're in obj format so you can load them into your 3d paint program of choice.

Hi! I'm afraid that there isn't any way to import new UV maps. The prims are already mapped, as is the Avatar, and those are the maps we all have to work with.
If you have the software, you can remap things, work with your maps, and burn the textures onto the Linden maps before uploading. I remapped the Avatar (there is only one map, for both male and female,) and use it for the basic fabric texture.
But, sadly, because there is only one map, and the customization is so extreme in-world (the sliders can really stretch the polys into amazing shapes,) I've found that I get better results putting the details on clothing using the Linden maps.
Using mine, the textures look great on an AV with slider settings very close to the models provided, but wretched on other AVs. Using theirs, they look okay on everyone.
Hope this helps!
