Heyo!
So.. trying to figure out how to do a .raw for sim terrain.. in photoshop elements. I can't bring up a channels tab or anything, and so far from my search thats the only way I've seen to do it.
Is it possible to do it in PSE 3.0? If so... anyone kind enough to give me a brief explanation?
Also, is there any kind of '.raw terrain maker toolerizer'? Just wondering on that one.. I prefer hand painting things like this if I can...
So yeah... anyone wanna be my hero? I've got quite a few from these forums lol...
thanks for any reply!

What you'll have to do in your case is use two tools. Use your graphics app to make the 256 x 256 greyscaleheightmap, and save that as a one-layer .jpg file. Then, if you're on a Mac, use a copy of Backhoe to import that .jpeg file as the heightmap layer of a new .raw file, and to set the height multiplier factor and the water height for the sim. I did that for quite some time, when I was still using Photoshop 7, which had no clue what a .raw file was. There's similar free .raw editors for Windows that you can use to plug a heightmap into a raw file. Google this list of search terms, and you'll find a bunch of .raw editors: second life .raw edit

Then find me a .raw editor and use that to import the heightmap and do whatever else I do there (Assuming I can figure that part out). OK, Thanks! Searching now ^_^

Yes. I can't count how many sims I designed and built that way. In fact, although I now have Photoshop CS3 and *could* edit them directly, I stil prefer importing the heightmap into Backhoe on my Mac, because it lets me preview the results in a spinning 3D view.

So..the only program I've found is called Bailiwick Sim Raw File Editor.. and it sounds like I might still need to be able to edit channels in Photoshop?
Maybe not.. giving it a try! ^_^

Looked at Bailiwick. You should be able to upload any normal .jpg heightmap into it. Give it a try. Cadroe's stuff usually rocks.
