Hello Jamie. Welcome to SL. :)

First, go to the downloads section of this site and grab the template collection. Read the instructions that come with it, the PDF called "Fashion Design: Using Templates". I'd also recommend getting the GIMPshop plugin that will transform GIMP's interface to look and work more like Photoshop's interface. After that, you'll be able to follow most of the tutorials written for Photoshop. After you read the template instructions, come back with anything specific you don't understand.

gimp tutorials online

plug in any two words about gimp in google and you're bound to find a tutorial on the subject online. :-) I never did the psp plugin, so i could use those which I find really helpful. be sure to make a new transparent layer over your template and you're set, pretty much. save transparent items as a .tga file. also get the chip midnight master templates available at slboutique. :-)

It's actually simpler than many of the tutorials make it out to be. Since most of the tutorials I found refer to Photoshop, here's a quick overview of what you need to do in Gimp.

1.Download the templates from the downloads section. Each template is layered.

2.Open the template you plan on making a pattern for in Gimp. Go to the menu above the image and click Dialogs, then click Layers (or hit ctrl+L on your keyboard). This pops up a window showing the layers with thumbnails of what's in them. A couple layers are example layers.

3. Ignore the example, prepainted layers and go to the layer labeled "Alpha", as in "T Shirt alpha", "Blue jeans alpha" etc. This layer is blank and will be the layer you will be making your texture on. Paint it however you like, and click on the overlay layer once in a while just for frame of reference.

4. When you're done painting the alpha layer, have only that layer in view and save it as a .tga file using whatever file name you want for it. Do not use compression when saving. Now all you have to do is import the tga file into Second Life and use it as a texture for the applicable garment.

Hi Althena. Weclome to SL. :)

I'm not sure I understand your post. I take it maybe English is not your first language? I'll try to help if I can.

First, I'm not sure what you mean by "which photo shop to d/". It sounds like maybe you're asking which version of Photoshop should you download? Well, the answer is the only version of Photoshop you can legally download is Photoshop CS2 from http://www.adobe.com/digitalimag/main.html. It's $599 US to purchase the program, or free to use for 30 days as a trial.

As for which version you should use, if you already have Photoshop 7, which I think you're saying you do, that will work just fine. It's 4 years old, but it's still a great program. You will need to install an update patch to it though for it to work properly. The update is called Photoshop 7.0.1 Update, and it's available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html. Just click the link next to the word Photoshop for whichever OS you're using, Mac or Windows, and then scroll down to where it says Photoshop 7.0.1, and pick the one for your language. Follow the instructions for installation.

As for the message that "the path is wrong", what exactly does it say and when exactly does it say it? If it says it when you try to start Photoshop, then it sounds like either a bad installation or simply an incorrectly addressed shortcut on your desktop, which is easy to fix. If it says it when Photoshop is already open and you try to use a tool, then it's probably again a bad installation, which you would fix by uninstalling and then reinstalling the program. If it says it when Photoshop is already open and you try to open a file, then either you're trying to open a file that is somewhere other than where you think it is, or maybe you're trying to open a file that hasn't been unzipped. If it says it when you're trying to download the installer, then either you're trying to download from one of those too good to be true, super mega low price, killer deal on Photoshop sites, in which case you may have just given away your personal information to a criminal, or you've simply typed a bad address into your browser, or possibly you've got a virus interfering with your ability to download files.

Those are all the the possibilities I can think of off hand without more information from you. If you post the exact text of the error message (assuming it's in English) and you if you describe exactly what you do in order for it to appear, I can tell you exactly what the problem is. Until then, all I can do is guess.
