I need a MALE Skin!

I make clothes and although I have a willing friend to model the male ones for me to photograph, it can take ages to get the photos just how I want them and he is often not on when I need him and I don't like to ask others... so it occurred to me that I could model them myself!

I got a male body from Enkythings (L$1) but am having a hard time finding a decent freebie or cheap skin and wondered if someone could point me to one? My pale bikini lines and features make him look like a transvestite!

I will probably end up paying 1000 or more but thought I would ask here first ;o)

Thanks

You won't find a good cheap/free skin. I suggest you go to LOST and get one--they make high quality skins for a decent price. You pay for what you get.

If you're doing photography, and need models, I suggest you get high quality skins.

Since this is a technical forum, I'm not going to make shopping suggestions, but since the OP mentioned photographing himself I would recommend investing in some sort of in world camera system for the photo shoots. I find them indispensible, especially any with the feature/ability to save the camera position indefinitely between logins. When combined with a modeling stand it makes "getting the photos/snapshots just how I want them" a non-issue.

Adrianna Marquez of Adris Flea Market has a fabulous male skin/shape combo for 10L$. It looks realistic, not crappy.

That's EXACTLY what I was looking for - I knew there were good free (or near enough) ones because I have heard them referred to previously in these forums by people who's opinions I have learnt to trust :) - there is some truly amazing free stuff if you know where to look.

Namssor, there really should be a clothing forum but until there is I find that most clothing manufacturers frequent this one and most people don't mind the occasional slightly borderline question - sorry if you are not one of them :\

I have a friend with a studio setup but find I can get just as good quality pics with the right neutral background, suitable level of world lighting, a good pose stand with some hand-picked poses and Hi-Res system snapshots (& Photoshop of course). See my saleboards at Kokiri 155, 155, 26 - I would value peoples opinions/comments...

Thanks again Sarabi - what would I do without these forums ;)

Consequently, I have a new product out you will find interesting. The Nikon SL100--a great camera model that photographers love. I also have a very nice tripod to match.

If you're interested in seeing it, follow this products link...

Noooo Michael - as I said - I find the system snapshot perfectly adequate - but you have done a great job with the Nikon and tripod! I have a Nikon D50 which I am very happy with (RL that is).

I need to find cheap man hair now - sigh - it's all go... I might even get one of those big orange things that noobs like!?!? Naaah - just kidding...

Cheers

Some of the best man hair is at Bewitched, Lemon Island, they have some excellent free hair and skins there too.

The free skins from secondforum.de are worth getting if you want to experiment with skins. You don't buy them in-world; they are TGA textures that you can download from their web site. (You have to register first, and the site is in German, so you'll have to be able to manage a little bit of site navigation in that language.) It does mean that you'll have to spend at least L$30 to end up with a skin that you can wear in-world; each skin has three parts that you will need to upload. They have four skins in all; two male and two female. They're great if you want to learn more about how a skin is made, and the results are quite wearable; on a par with most free SL skins, but not as good as high-quality bought ones.

I have successfully made skins in the skin tone I wanted by applying color adjustments to the entire image. That changes the color of the nipples and hair a bit too, but the results are fine so long as you don't make a really radical change to the skin tone. I did it by using the eyedropper tool on a picture of a skin tone I liked to get the RGB values, then experimenting with color adjustments (HSB) of one part of the secondforum skin until I got it to match. I then wrote down the HSB adjustments and applied the same changes to the other two skin parts.

They have a few nice free clothing items as well. Same deal; they're TGA files that you can upload to SL.

Hi Cat!!

I once have tried to change from a girlie into a woolf, that runned smooth. To get back was a bigger issue, SL wasn't working along and I have seen worse scenario's with that. I even saw someone not getting the skintexture back on her face for days. So that scared the hell out of me. I am just about to make an other account. As a male :). With the tips and tricks of you all this will be the far easiest way.

For the pics I just use the inworld snapshots and I got a load of poses. I think I even bought them for 1L$. I use my workbuster up in the sky to take the pics with my own photoshoot background. But hè just a beginner too!

Hey Shirley. I visited the German site, but can't seem to find the downloads you mention (even with the help of Google Translate). Do you have a link to the particular thread? Thanks!

Hi Neighbour!

Aester - I did think about the alt but male body and skin is working perfectly for me - I can slip into male guise in my skybox, take some pics, and change back. The big advantage is that I don't have to pass stuff backwards and forwards as I am the same person with same inventory, permissions and friends list... if you see what I mean. Just have to hope I don't get 'stuck' in male guise...

Small care package on its way. Yes, there is at least one very good free male skin, and I included a couple shapes I made. Enjoy.

If you can make clothing you can probably also make shapes. The ones I included are copy/mod/xfer; feel free to play with them and have some fun. The face is the tricky part.
