Left-click to buy

Hi all,

I am looking to get some anecdotal feedback on the newish left-click to action items. In particular the left-click to buy. How many of you have switched your vendors to use this feature? Have you noticed any boost in sales as a result? Have you noticed the experience to be easier?

Thanks for the feedback.

This might be a bit unrelated, but is there a way to shorten the tooltip delay when pointing at an item before buying?

I have changed some of my things, but I have mixed feelings. I felt like "everyone" would do it and that if I didn't the newest new people would just think my things are not for sale. I have used it once, I think. I'm not quite sure HOW I feel about it. The left-sit is cool, the left-buy seems less unambiguously good. The icon looks large... I am just not sure.

Sorry not to've been more help.

I haven't tried it yet. was afraid it would lead to an increase in mistaken purchases since I already get a lot of (people buying a full priced item instead of a demo). That's based on complete ignorance of how it actually works though so I may be way off base. But that's what kept me from trying it right away. I'll be interested to hear other's experiences, and especially how buyers like it.

Would left-clicking buy the item with no confirmation first? I kinda like right-clicking for a sub-menu. It feels natural.

Thank you all for you responses thus far. I hope more people will chime in.

As to a question listed in this thread:

Unfortunately, the icon latency observed when hovering on a left click to action and then moving off of it is not ideal. I know we can improve on this in the future but to be perfectly frank, to move its improvement to an immediate actionable task I think we need to collect evidence that the user experience in its current form is so poor that it is harmful rather than helpful. The fact that people are embracing left-click to sit seems to point to the opposite.

I've been using Left-click to Buy quite liberally for objects priced L$0, but have hesitated to use it for anything that costs L$, for much the same reason Chip mentioned -- I didn't want to encourage any mistaken purchases.

As a note, the Left-click to Buy seemed to have some problems with an object that contained a script with a Touch_Start event. The clicking seemed to set off the Touch event, not just the Buy. I'm not positive that it wasn't a user error with buyers right-clicking and going to Touch instead of Buy, but it happened several times... Has anyone else had a problem with this?

I have it on all my boxes and to be honest I think no one cares if its there or not.
One side affect of it is that now people cant get notecards by normal clicking the boxes anymore, they just get the pop up to buy the item.
But that doesn't really bother me.

In all honestly I would say I'm completely impartial to it and customers seem to be too.
ie if you removed the feature tomorrow, no one would miss it.

Potentially it's a good idea but I tried it and gave up when I discovered it overrides touch events in scripts. I'd like to see the behaviour extended to allow touch events to be fired in scripts. ie: I like to be able to give a notecard to a potential customer before they purchase.

You can still launch the touch events by right-clicking on object and choosing 'touch' option from contextual menu (probably would be reasonable to use LSL to change text in menu to something like "Info" instead in such case)

So it's just matter of picking the default behaviour i guess, and indicating to your buyer the other option is available under right-click...

edit: re the original question, i gave it couple weeks for people to get more comfortable with the idea, then set the vendors to use this new left click thing.... doesn't seem to have any effect positive or negative, really. I find it slightly more convenient to shop with it, since it's always left click on item than hunting option in menu depending if it's "Buy" or "Pay" type vendor. For other actions like "Sit" and "Open" (for item boxes and such) it's definitely nice and speeds things up.

I've changed most of the items that I have for sale to the Left-Click to Buy option - all except the ones that already have touch events. I really like the idea of having the cursor change to reflect that the item is for sale.

Don't like it :(

I just accidently left clicked on the item and it took money from my account without any confirmation. I suspect due to the lag that I never saw the buy box/button and happen to mouse over and click on the area where the buy button was (lucky me). Because the only thing that I saw next was that I paid L$750.00 to the vendor. What we need is a confirmation box like a drop down blue box on the top right hand corner to confirm.

I am currently trying to contact the vendor, although offline at the moment, to hopefully sympathize with me and refund the money back to me. But I see this as an horrible idea, because mistakes will happen. A confirmation dialog box is utmost necessary if this is to be kept. Atleast then I could have said no instead of having to go through this uncertainty.

Lastly, Please do not combine more funtions into the left mouse button please. What was so bad about right click to buy? Seem to work much better and you even get a circular menu. I never had trouble with right click.

I enabled that feature on a couple of products, but I've stopped using it since then. What I really don't like it the long delay for the icon display after mousing off a box. I feel it's just needlessly confusing (does the shop sell its floor and walls too? oh no, it's just the icon that hasn't disappeared yet) and visually "unpretty".

Don't use it at all. Not in anything I sell, nor when I buy stuff. It masks touch events, and lag can make a mistaken purchase too easy.

Haven't tried it yet. Was wondering what that little green "$L" was!

But I think I shall try it now that I've got the idea of it. More avenues to purchase just 'regular stuff' - a good thing.

I know less now about SL than I did in 2003...
