Do you already know how to use Photoshop or any other good raster editor? If not, you'll need to learn to use one first. You'll have little hope of understanding the available tutorials otherwise.
If you do already know how to use a good painting program, which one are you using, and what are you having trouble following in the tutorials? _____________________

Look at the layers pallet and double click on the layer. You can double click on the thumbnail or to the right of the layer name. This will bring up Layer Style dialog box. There is a drop down menu at the top with a long list of blending modes. Just below that is a slider for opacity. It is worthwhile to get familiar with this Layer Style box. This is has many uses for making clothing textures.
