Bryce for Textures

I am considering purchasing Bryce 5.5 for non SL things, however I noticed that many of the add on packs have textures that look very similar to ones I have seen in SL. Is it possible to export a tree texture that I have created or modified with Bryce and turn it into an alpha transparant file using PS and then uploading it to SL?

I don't use Bryce, but in theory the answer should be yes. Model your tree, do a rendering, and use the rendering as a texture.

Depending on Bryce's rendering options, you might not even need to involve Photoshop at all. In Maya, for example, you can export directly to TGA, alpha channel and all. If Bryce has similar capbility, and I can't imagine it wouldn't, you should be able to do the same.

I want to create fantastic landscapes and scenes. I have never used a 3D image tool and I thought Bryce would be a good place to start because they have so many add on packs with trees and canyons and such. I'm not an artist so I dont want a program where I have to start from scratch. So while i was looking at all the texture packs that are available for Bryce, I saw things that looked like things I have seen in SL. And I was wondering if I could somehow bring textures from Bryce into SL, like wall designs and trees and flowers. I dont have the full version of Adobe Photoshop, just the Elements version so making masks for textures would be a real pain. It would be great if I could export transparant PNG or Targa from Bryce. That's what I would like to know.
So if anyone knows for sure, I would appreciate a reply

Yes, you are right. Bryce is a good place to start. For rendering into a transparent background, I have a feeling it won't be able to do transparent PNGs. However, there may be a simple workaround you can read here.

Regarding software for landscapes and scenes, there are several others that you can try too. Not necessarily better, but different.

I have bryce and I am ashamed to say I have not learned it yet. However it is owned by Daz studio which gives you a few
options on render output file types.

I often create textures by baking them into renders, then I
output as a jpeg, pick it up in ps or psp and resize and save it
as a tga.file.

for alphas you can just pick up the render and make it in
ps or psp.
If you do not have either of those I am pretty sure Gimp is
has the alpha creation capability.

And if you do not have a full paint program you might as well
get gimp for it is free open source.

It is actually a very powerful paint program and you can make countless textures in it as well.
It has a somewhat less intuitive interface but becomes easier with time.
As long as you know what you want to do, you can just google
it and there are lots of tutorials available. ;)
