I've finally figured out how to get the layers looking right - now my question is once I have the alpha channel and the layer with just my fabric cut out in the shape I want - what next? I saved it once but I seemed only to have saved the alpha channel so I didnt get any fabric with it when I uploaded it. So what am I saving? The alpha? The Fabric portion? Ok dont laugh - its prob a silly question ok go ahead and laugh its ok hehe.

  1. File -> Save As...

  2. Give the file a name.

  3. Select TGA as the file format, and click Okay.

    (Depending on which version of PS you're using, it might prompt you that the file will be saved as a copy. This is fine. Just ignore it. It's just a safeguard that's in place because TGA is a flat format which doesn't support layers. It prevents you from accidentally overwriting your layered work. Just let it save the TGA as a copy, and all will be well.)

  4. After you click Okay to save, the TGA Options dialog will pop up. This is where you'll choose the bit depth. Select 24-bit if it's the image does not need transparency, or select 32-bit if it does. It's VERY important to select the right depth for the right purpose. Remember, 24 for non-transparency, 32 for transparency. Once again, VERY IMPORTANT.

    (For more info on what bit depth is, read the transparency guide, which is stickied at the top of this forum.)

  5. Upload the TGA file to SL and enjoy.

I'll add just a few other points to Chosen's well-documented advice:

The layers thyat are visible in Photoshop will be the ones visible in your saved file. So turn off visibility on any template grid layers, make sure your fabric and any shading layers you used to make wrinkles or whatever are on, and then save.

It will save the alpha chanel weather it is visible or not, if you save as 32-bit tga. It will not save the alpha chanel if you save as 24-bit.
