Skin Mapping Problem

noticed a friend of mine's skin had an odd texture issue. same skin as always. but what looks like a UV mapping error was creating a dark spot. she tried on a couple other skins, including some demos, and the same thing occurs.

relog doesn't help
modifying the mesh (changed leg size > saved > changed back) didn't do anything

any suggestions how to correct this?

If you're getting it on more than one skin then it's probably caused by an article of clothing you're wearing. Take all lower body clothing off one by one until you find the culprit. My guess would be socks.

well, turns out she didn't have any socks on at the time. just saw her and now she does. but there's still something odd happening in that general location. you can see something odd...

Very strange. If it's not caused by an article of clothing I've never seen that particular problem before.

ok. now it's gone.

seems it appeared after going from pants to a long dress and then to shorts. the next outfit was the sock one above. she tp'd elsewhere, removed the socks, and the issue was resolved.

know that's not much....

I had no idea that Very Gross Veins were a problem in SL, too!

My guess would be shoes made with this template and set for full height.

I have to wonder what the Lindens were thinking when these 2 parts were tex-mapped so close together....why didn't they move the foot top lower on the image to give it some bleed room of its own?
Same thning can happen to the upper arm & abdomen front areas because of the upper body template's mapping. Ugh.

I've always kinda scratched my head about that too. There's an even worse spot on the head template between the middle of the scalp above the forehead and the sides of the adam's apple. The gap there on a 512x512 texture is only about two pixels.

Yes, the template designs leave a lot to be desired! For the most part, all those artifact issues can be handled with a bit of care and precision in masking. The only time those areas really show problems is when the texture is rendering a fuzzy pixel radius that is larger than the actual visible pixel range. I see it all the time when I'm previewing textures. If things are masked properly, the problem goes away once the texture is fully rendered.

Every woman can tell at a glance what the problem is in that pic -- it's obviously the Bane of Female Existence, a run in her stockings.
