Can I Color Skin Without A Texture

I'm making AVs that I want to have a solid color skin. I've been just making a texture of the color and applying it in the appearance editor. Is there a way to add color to a blank skin without having to upload textures? It's not breaking me but I'm curious if I could skip that step.

Your only option to add color to a default skin without texturing it is with the pigmentation, ruddiness, and rainbow sliders. The default client skin has to have a fully opaque surface to render the avatar color with. It is one of SL's little laws of physics.

Some of the texture layers that overlay that default client skin (head_color.tga, lowerbody_color.tga, upperbody_color.tga, eyewhite.tga, head_skingrain.tga, body_skingrain.tga) always show, and can not be hidden by setting the sliders at Zero. To get rid of these textured parts you will need to replace each colored texture with 32 bit fully transparent textures on all three body sections and the eye. That will eliminate eye, tearduct, nipple, fingernail, belly button, and foot definition (toenails and toes). The skin grain is a bit trickier. Some systems crash when altering the 8 bit textures in the client such as skin grain. If the system does not crash on you then proceed to make the two skin grain textures completely white (eliminate the texture noise). With all the other sliders turned down in appearance, you should end up with a skin texture that looks like flesh colored smooth polymer clay (Sculpy). You will be able to alter the color of it fairly dramaticaly in appearance with the rainbow slider, but it will always have natural fleshy undertones. That's about the best you can do without uploading a texture into SL. Of course, if you need a specific color you will need to upload that color as a flat texture or change the default client color layers to fully opaque textures with your chosen color. For the head texture this will color the eyelashes unless you leave that area transparent. Lighting and rendering conditions will also affect the look of that color, so a perfect match is nearly impossible to achieve.

Maybe that helps, or maybe it doesn't. If you are looking to sell avatars with these settings, DON"T do it. It's far more trouble than it's worth. If it's for personal use, then maybe. Still, it's a lot of setup for a little payoff.

Thanks, Namssor, that does help. What I'm doing is making prim robots and want to match the skin color to the prim color so in the few times where the av pokes through it's not obvious and intrusive but I don't want to use invisiprims. I had played with the sliders and wasn't able to match the exact colors like I can with uploading so I'll just continue to go that route. Just thought I'd ask, though since there are so many things to know I sometimes (often?) miss easy and obvious solutions.
