Is it possible to make a .raw file with Bryce 5.5? I just got this recently (free! woo!) and was wondering if it would be more useful to me than just a shiny toy.

Yes and not exactly!

You can export your terrain height map from the terrain editor in bryce. However it saves it in the .png file format.
The good news is that you can then save as .raw in PS so the problem is solved there.

The way you do it is...

Create your terrain object then hit the little E next to the selected object. This will put you in the Terrain Editor. The top left largest window is your working height map. There is a little
vertical rectangle to the left of that window. On the bottom of that rectangle there is a little
grid symbol. Hit that and you get options for choosing the size of your map. You can choose
from 16 to 4096 in size. Once you have chosen your size then go to the little down pointing
black triangle at the top right hand corner of the same window. Hit that and you get a small
drop down list with an "export image" option. This will export your map. The other "export"
will export your object.

One small warning is that I tested this on my version Bryce 6. I dont have 5 so I cannot guarantee it will export in 5. However I did take a quick look at the new feature page in 6.
And the only thing new that was close was exporting boolean mesh objects.

And oh yeah for a very quick way to grab the map is to just go to the smaller lower right
"editing tools" window and on the first little window inside that box just hit "copy" and it
will be on your clipboard and you can paste it right into PS. It only copies it at the 512
size though.

I think you will be fine with these methods let us know how it works out. :D

Oh and btw if your planning on creating terrain maps in Bryce for SL terrain maps, you may
want to darken your colors. Otherwise anywhere there is White in the image your sim hills
will be 255 meters tall, haha
k good luck :D
