I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me. When I do alpha channels and make alpha textures, I normally have no issue and no halo, I use the black bg layer.
In making sheer material for clothing tho, I can't seem to make white be white and still sheer without halo.
The white fabric when uploaded to SL appears more grey when I use the black background correction layer. I have tried using a white correction layer.. a grey one, nothing seems to work. My fabric continues to have a grey tint. My other sheer fabric, now that I examine it, also seems to be altered in color or sheerness due to the black correction layer.
Is there any simply way to correct this, something I'm just missing?

Sounds like perhaps you've got some layer transparency in your working image that shouldn't be there. If all you want is a piece of white fabric that you can see through, then all you need is a solid white opaque layer and a gray alpha channel.

Hi! If you can use Photoshop Plug-Ins in your graphics program, I would highly recommend downloading the Flaming Pear Free Plug-ins, and using Solidify A, B, or C. That will make the background layer the color of the pixels themselves, and prevent any unwanted tint. All of which being said, the transparency will still be blended with whatever color is behind it in SL. So if you're looking at something against a black background, it will appear to have a gray tint. You might want to take a look at it against a white background before you decide that you actually have a problem here. (Still download and use the Solidify Filter if you can, though, to make sure that things like multi-color semi-transparent areas show their true colors.) Hope this helps!

Robin, I can't thank you enough for posting a link to the Solidify plugin back whenever it was you first did. They've saved me so much time! They'be become a standard part of my workflow. They don't just help with the halo issue. They're by far the best way to take care of the bleed area and make skins rez much more gracefully. Thanks!

alpha channels lol?

ok, i cant help with alpha channels to be honest, i have been making clothes and selling them for nearly a year now, and i still dont know how to make a alpha.
but i do use a little free program called gimp along with paintshop pro.
here is a trick i learned when i started making clothes, i make the clothes exactly how i want them to look when uploaded, if i want a transparent area, i make it transparent on that layer and so on.
then i save it as a .psd file when doing this it will reopen it in gimp just as i had it in paintshop,
then i open it in gimp and the only thing i do in gimp is resave it as a .tga im not sure how it works but saving it in gimp as a tga instead of paintshop it uploads exactly how i made it to look, without filling in the transparent areas. gimp somehow seems to add that alpha or map. so far it has worked fine for me and i havnt bothered to learn to make a alpha.
