I am working on a knit sweater. I drew a couple of mostly horizontal folds at the waist, where the material naturally bunches up. It looks great in Photoshop. I am so pleased with myself. However, when I load it into SL it looks like... SL smears the folds into a grey-black streak. How can I overcome SL’s limitations and, make it look more like a fold? I tried making it darker, to stand out more. Didn’t help. Added, highlights to get more depth, didn’t help. It sill smeared. Can I make the fold wider? Or narrower, to overcome the limitations? It looks so natural in Photoshop, I would hate to eliminate it. Still, after three uploads, nothing I like. Jen

Are you previewing in DAZ Studio? That might save you some money and let you try out different things to adjust the folds. Sometimes I just draw different colored dots all over the template just to see exactly where it ends up on the body.

Unfortunately, something can look fine if DAZ and still look sucky in SL. The models are different. I managed to get it presentable but, I am still not really happy with the results. I guess, I will have to live with it or work around the limitations until Linden Labs gives us a better model. It is just frustrating to struggle to get realistic looking clothing, only to see what happens when you upload. That sweater and skirt outfit looked so good in Photoshop, I want to find one like it in RL. Sorry, but I am darn proud of it. Jen

I understand completely. It's like you have to cross your fingers when you upload something. There's so many weird little problems with the models.

Use your dodge and burn tools!

I make clothes, and have had amazing success at working with fabric wrinkles, I use the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop, set your intensity very low, and use and soft brush, youll be amazed at the outcome. Also, keep in mind, that to me it seems that when I upload anything into SL they always come out a bit darker with more contrast than what I see on the screen. I dont use DAZ studio, and have never needed it, who needs another step, when theres so many already!
