Ok First off hello. I have a few questions I am sure they have been asked but I have looked and looked and can't find anything on it so here they are.

1. Can you use poser to make skins for SL and if not what do I use to do it I have photoshop But need a 3D modeling program to put the skin on to see if it is right. (also have poser) Also how would you upload a skin just like a texture if so how would you apply it as a skin.

2. I have made some clothes, but how do you make them to hang off the body in SL. I have seen some that flap in the wind hanging off arms legs waist etc. etc. All mine want to rap around and not hang.

3. Is there a way to get all my textures off SL to my RL computer to use in clothing design.

4. Can some one give me one of there hanging type of clothing design like in question 2(it can be real ugly and no good use) in a layered photoshop format as a guide line.

5. What do you use to make stuff like hats and stuff that you can attach and edit. (Like a hat you can reposition it so it fits right).

Thats all the big question that I really need help with for now I am sure I will think of some others I forgot to ask later. Any help would be appreciated even a point to where I can find these answers. Thanks. Oops thought of one more what is and where can I get SLCP.

I have never made a skin, however I do not believe you can create a skin that is compatible with SL using Poser.

If it is possible, then I'm sure someone will wander in shortly and correct me.

Prims as attachments (if you are not familiar with prim torturing, visit the Ivory Tower of Primitives and you'll get a nice introduction)

3. Is there a way to get all my textures off SL to my RL computer to use in clothing design.

If, and only if, you have permission to do so, you can open the texture, go to FILE > SAVE TEXTURE AS then save it to your computer to use in a graphics application.

It's a fantabulous creation which allows you to preview your clothing on your computer without uploading them into SL and paying the L$10 each time.

You can also upload them on the beta grid to check them out and see if corrections/alterations need to be made and the money will not come out of your actual main SL L$ balance.

The SLCP can be found here:

Or just look at the sticky at the top of this forum :)

Enjoy!

You cannot "make" skins in Poser, but you can preview them in Poser. Personally, I have a heck of a time doing much oof anything with Poser these days as it locks up when the wind blows. But this thread should help you with that here:
/109/20/78145/1.html

I'll drop you a full permission prim skirt in world in a min that you can play with. Right click on WEAR from your inventory or rez it on the ground to edit it without having it attached.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the Info some was vary useful but I am still not sure how to make something like that skirt you sent me (by the way thank you vary much for that) now did you make that all in Sl or on another program in RL and upload it I guess I need to find a Tutorial on working with prims. I can do the graphics part fine but I am a real noob with the prims lol. What program would I use for a skin and what format should it be saved as and how do you upload the skin so it is a skin and not just a texture thanks again.

Poser is only really useful for making animations, the skin templates are very different. The main site has templates you can import into Photoshop, just use those. And when you import into SL you can change the preview in the single texture import from a face, shirt/skin, pants, both male and female, so you can see how they look. You can ALT/ZOOM like inworld, mouse around, spin them and check your seaming without actually paying the upload cost, all in the preview window. As for clothing, you can manipulate the bagginess to a point but yes wearable prims are easier for realistic clothing. Get yourself a posing stand, they are usually free and most prim clothing shops will have one, freebee yards, that sort. And you can stand on the pose-stand and build the prims around your body then just attach them together and pick them up and wear them. use the advanced attach menus, IE attact to left forearm, head, chest, leg, that sort. or they will just attach to a random place on your body. then rotate and move them into place again as an attachment.

Things like the skirt you were given are made in SL with SL's primitive objects. If you're new to building you should search for the Ivory Tower of Primitives and go visit. It has a bunch of self paced tutorials to help you get up to speed with working with prims.

For previewing avatar textures outisde of SL take a look at the sticky threads at the top of this forum. There's a free previewer that allows you to test out textures on the avatar models. Also browse through the links thread.

The best tutorial for working with prims is actually inworld. Search in places for Ivory Tower of Primitives. You can also go to one of the awesome building classes offered at many of the educational places within SL. Search under Events > Educational. Most, if not all, are free.

Textures for attachments are created in a graphics program like Photoshop, Gimp, PSP...etc, then uploaded and used on the prim. You do have some in your library you can play with to see what the different texture settings do such as repeating..etc.

That was so very generous of MadamG to give you a skirt...I would recommend rezzing it then right click > edit and take note of the settings and try to understand what each one does.

To make it flexible look in the Edit menu and go to the tab labeled Features to see the flexi settings.

Have fun!

Any image you upload is called a texture. You might put it on a prim or make a skin or an article of clothing. These textures can be created with any paint program you want. Photoshop, GIMP and Paint Shop Pro are popular choices. See Chosen Few's definitive tutorial on texture file formats stickied at the top of this forum.

Use the clothing templates by Chip Midnight or Robin Sojourner as guides for creating clothes or skins. Upload your image files to SL.

If you are making an article of clothing:
Right click on your avatar and go into appearance editor. Select the desired clothing choice: shirt, pants and so on. Remove the one you are wearing if any and create a new one. You will see a box for a texture to be applied. Click on the box and select your uploaded texture. You can also use the sliders to set the sleeve length and such. Click save and you have a new shirt that will be saved to your inventory.

If you are making a skin:
On the inventory window, select Create<Body Part<Skin. A new skin item will appear in your inventory. Put that on. Go into appearane editor and select skin. There are three "tatoos" boxes for three textures, head, upper and lower. Apply your uploaded textures to these and you have your skin.

Upload previewer: when uploading your texture, you can see it applied to the avater shape before uploading. Use the drop down menu to select which part of the body (male or female) to preview your texture on. You can zoom and pan on the preview image.

No, you can't as several have said. However, you can use Bodypaint 3d, provided you download the avatars (they are objs that match the inworld avatars) so when you upload the skins they will look correct.

2. I have made some clothes, but how do you make them to hang off the body in SL. I have seen some that flap in the wind hanging off arms legs waist etc. etc. All mine want to rap around and not hang.

That would be done using flexi prims. I don't do that so I can't tell you how.
From: Paul Dudek

3. Is there a way to get all my textures off SL to my RL computer to use in clothing design.

Technically, yes. However, since you should already have a copy of your clothes and to prevent griefing, I will decline to tell you how. Sorry.

From: Paul Dudek

4. Can some one give me one of there hanging type of clothing design like in question 2(it can be real ugly and no good use) in a layered photoshop format as a guide line.

Asking for custom made templates is always bad form, as it is the basic of most peoples work (some are so talented that they have the time to constantly make custom work. Most of us aren't)
Best thing is to grab Chip Midnights templates and a copy of SLCP and go at it.

5. What do you use to make stuff like hats and stuff that you can attach and edit. (Like a hat you can reposition it so it fits right).

I believe this has been answered.
