hello, im looking for japanese sort of textures to make some custome houses, I can make everything but teh textures because I have completely NO idea how to. To make them I know I need a program but it'd have to be free, if someone could give me a tutorial on a free program I'd love you!

As of now Im searching to see if anyone has copiable Textures they can send me, and if you have a texture that you dont wish to upload, just IM me in world a link to it and I can upload it myself so you wouldnt have to spend any money? I really need these textures, I've been hunting about for free textures and such since I've been broke pretty much lately, with no success, if I cannot sell stuff I cannot make money, and I cannot buy textures T.T so please help me if you can.

The best free paint program out there would probably be GIMP. As with any paint program, it's a fairly complex piece of software and not really something that someone could get you up to speed with from just a quick tutorial. You'll need to spend a fair amount of time experimenting with it, getting familiar with its tools and techniques, and generally just investing the time to learn it. You'll find quite a few tutorials on the GIMP site that can help you get started. Also, here's a link to a book for beginning GIMP users. Several people also teach classes in world though I'm not sure if any are specific to GIMP.

the best textures are those around you. I tend to screen cap when I am watching something on the computer so, I grab textures that way. Also, textures into Google images works too. Anything not free is generally heavily watermarked. I have genetica 2.5 so I can basically make my own. But it isn't free.

For free to use source images, check out http://sxc.hu - the usage restrictions are noted with each photo, most of them have no restrictions or just "notify the owner".

Some of the texture sets that I sell at Textures-R-Us may be useful to you. I have some nice shojii screens as well as Western-style doors with shojii-panel insets for sale. In the singles vendors on the second floor we have a bunch of textures for clay tile roofs, many of which are perfect for traditional-style Japanese architecture. We also have wood textures, tatami lats, and other things that could be useful to you. Textures vary in price, depending on the detailing and the complexity of making them, but are typically about L$30 each.

If you can't find what you want, or if you'd rather make your own, get some good photographs of the kind of elements you want to use. If you took the pictures yourself and own the copyright to the photos, you can use them as-is to make photographic textures. For example, my tatami mat textures were made by scanning a piece of a real tatami mat, then working with it in Photoshop to make a seamless, tilable texture to use.

Be careful about downloading textures from the Internet and using them in products for re-sale. There are a lot of wonderful textures out there, but if you check on the websites that they are on, you'll often find that they are not for commercial re-sale or re-use.

Bear in mind that whether you create a texture yourself or get it from a free Internet source, it still costs you L$10 for each upload. And possibly more, if what you upload doesn't work right the first time. Such as not being seamless when you set it for multiple repeats. Or forgetting to save a texture as 32-bit when you need alpha transparency. So in some cases, it may be cheaper to just buy textures.
