In making my first flexi skirt (OK, I can't claim to be a newbie anymore, but clothes aren't my thing), I ran into a problem. I made the prims about 20% transparent on all surfaces so that the leggings underneath show through. It looks good from close up, but when I zoom the camera away from my avatar, the skirt disappears around the torso, showing big holes with the pants showing through. Is this an alpha sorting issue? How do I fix it?

i'm not a clothes maker, but from my experience on other builds...i think you might want to make the part of the skirt that is not meant to be transparent non-alpha texture...that would mean the having a non-alpha textured prim for the top of the skirt...attached to a second prim with the alpha texture for the lower part of the skirt. could work...

I figured it out, and it was even simpler than an alpha problem. The skirt panels just needed to be moved away from my body slightly! It had nothing to do with transparency. For some strange reason, zooming the camera away changes the position of prims as seen by the camera. I also notice that as the camera is zoomed away, the flex prims poof out slightly as though the avatar is moving. Very odd.

Yes, it's odd. I've noticed that some of the prim hair I have, changes in this way also. At some distances, I have bald patches (even though the hair thickness is a virtual 2-4 cm), but at others, my skull is covered. It probably has to do with the way my computer interprets the instructions from the server... not sure.

LOD strikes again! (Level of Detail.) It's an optimization without which, our computers would be too busy calculating for us to be able to do anything at all.
