I'm trying to use a Template to create a wolf skin, but I'm not sure what parts I'm supposed to be coloring over. Should I go up to and not color the red/yellow/blue outlines, or color them and not the minimum bleed area? Also, how do I go about makin' the ears and tail? Anyone have skins for those I can use? Or know someone that has GOOD wolf skins I can purchase?

I downloaded the tutorial file that came with the templates, but my adobe wont read it. It keeps giving me errors cause it cant read some of the data.

Hi flickerswift,

You may want to check out the forrest. There is a vender up in a set of 3 very big trees in the North East corner of the simm that sells modifiable 'basic' furry starter kits (cat/fox/skunk/rabbit/dragon if I remember correctly)

Lots of people use those to get started and then make modifications and tweaks and add/remove bits untill they get the exact result they wat.

I don't remember seeing wolves, bout you could try the basic fox in grey and mod from there. At the very least, it will give you the basic parts you need like ears and a tail that you can use as examples to see how it's done so you can design your own versions.

Also, the head that comes with the 'kit' has textured eyes that are scripted so they simulate blinking, etc. This could save you a lot of work reinventing the wheel on building what you want for your avatar.

NOTE: I don't have a furry AV and have never bought one of these kits, but if/when I do make a furry AV I'll start with one of these as they looks like a prety good, well thought out product to me.

IM me ingame and I'll see if I can intruduce you to another player I know who has a wolf AV so you can talk to them. At least I think its a wolf... ;) Hmm...

Good luck.

Actually, I think you are refereing to Luskwood as being a place to buy those avatars you were thinking of but they aren't really starter sets as they are in the $900L price range. Thay do make a great avatar! I have 3 of them and I make furry avatars myself. :) Now the store on the island called "The Forest" has a lot of furry items, avatars, costume parts etc. There is a really nifty wolf skin set available there as well as lots of other items.

As far as the template is concerned, best thing to do would be to load up a merged copy onto your avatar to see how it works. The idea of the bleed area is to run your color out to there and a little beyond as large avatars will expand this area and create seems. Look through this forum and the guide that is available with the templates and head out to the sandbox area at The Forest, there are usually quite a few furs milling about willing to help you out.

Thanks Kathmandu,

I couldn't remember the name Luskwood the other night (no SL access at work to check it).

I may wander up to the forest and check out the shops there myself at some point.

check out ari's thread on Tattoo -- it's really handy in combination with the templates (the ones from Chip are very useful as well).

/109/f4/32414/1.html

you'll also need to download the mannequin from the secondlife website

saves lots of money and time trying to check your seams, and i know some people that have done some neat non-human skins painting directly within Tattoo.

side note: i tend to work generously into and over the bleed lines. There are a number of different ways to get a fur effect, depending on how photorealistic you want to be. You can work off of a photo (lots of clone tool use), though that can be challenging and doesn't always provide the desired results, or you can play with the smudge tool -- can get some good effects that way.

Heyas!

I'm royally clueless on how to put on a texture. I recently got a "tiger skin" texture for my avatar, and I have no clue how to "wear" it. When I pull it from my inventory on to my body, I end up wearing a box on my head. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but what should I be doing?

Much like every thing you buy in SL, you need to rez the box on the ground, right click the box and select edit from the pie menue. Select the "More" button to expand the edit box and select the "content" folder and drag the contents into your inventory where you can find it again. Then take the items and right click the items and select "wear".

Ah! That makes sense. I've been on for close to a year and I still don't know some of the finer points of the system.

Thanx for the help! :D

If you're looking for a werewolf av, check out Avalon, top floor, behind a sculpture vendor, there's a smaller vendor selling av's. Starax, I think is the name of the vendor. He/she sells a no mod werewolf av for 1k, or a mod werewolf av for 5k, if you have the money, go for the 5k one, you can mod it how you want. :)
