No clue how make multiple textures on one object, say a cabinet door on one side of a cube, the other 5 sides wood. Do you need a program to do this?

In edit mode, click "select texture", click the desired surface, and you will only change the texture of that surface. If you want to re-texture two surfaces of that object, you hold shift and select the next surface before editing the texture.
