I made my first prim skirt the other day. So my avatar's shape is not at all average. Not sure what average is on sl, but when I fit a prim skirt to my avatar it usually requires quite a bit of adjustment for other people. Expecially the back. On me it looks fine, on other people, their butt will be sticking through the skirt. Is there a "standard" shape that most people use to fit something like that? I realize that everyone is shaped differently, so nothing it going to work for everyone, but I want to design skirts that will fit the majority of the people with as little adjustment as possible.

No, there really isn't a standard. People vary a lot, just as they do in RL. The best you can do is to create a few test body shapes for yourself and then use your own av as a fitting dummy to see where the problems are likely to show up.
If you look back through the archives of this forum, you'll find that I have commented many times about how important it is for anyone in SL to develop the basic skills for fitting clothing. Prim clothing, in particular, rarely fits well "off the rack," which is why so many women in SL look as if they slept in their clothes or were dressed by a demented monkey. (Guys have simpler clothing and they don't care as much about it. ![]() What a designer or a shop owner CAN do is to provide some basic instruction and offer a limited amount of private assistance for alterations, as needed. At various times, I have offered a freebie package that contains a pose stand, a privacy screen, a meter stick, and a nice notecard explaining how to re-hem a skirt, get it to sit properly on your hips, and gently nudge panel off your butt or hips. Good luck. ![]() _____________________

One thing I do with many of my prim things, is to make small, medium, and large versions.
I use the shapes I made in the Designer Toolkit (available free at my store or Xstreet SL), and make a size 25, size 50 and size 75 version. It might be nice if designers gave away the shape they were designing for. Or at the least the slider numbers. There is a hair shop that gives out their ideal head measurements.
I did get one once from a dress designer. The shape was mod but no trans. It had an ugly face but that was easy to fix. . _____________________

I've gotten skirts that look like they were shaped for Butt = 0, Hips = 100 and I've gotten skirts that fit perfectly. Really, I never change my shape for an outfit. I modify the outfit around my shape. Copy/Mod permissions are a necessity. (^_^)y

When I create prim clothing I use my own shape as the model, since I am reasonably average by SL standards. I expect the buyer to make any necessary alterations to it if her shape is not the same as mine, so I always sell with copy/mod. I would never expect the buyer to change her body to match my work. _____________________

Just went to Xstreet and got it. Will play with it when I get home tonight. |

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I'm not going to worry about it too much since every shape is different, but I will try out some other shapes and see how they work out. My avatar seems to have a flat butt which I never realized before, but now that I comepare how the skirt fits me to other people that seems to be the case lol. I think my skin camoflages it or something.
