I've been having probs with getting a shirt..like a bikini top, to look right in the back..from front to back, it's uneven..or one side wraps around, when the other doesn't and vice versa. I'm using Chip's templates, but I guess I'm not understanding how the seams correlate to the front and back of the shirt. If I could figure that out, I think that I could actually make it look right. I'm using GIMP..the BEST PROGRAM IN THE WORLD! heh, and it's just so frustrating, when I upload my clothing item in beta, to see it all screwed up. I want a spaghetti strap at the back, that connects with the front, but it's just so uneven! Help!

What you should do is convert Chip's templates into tga files, upload, and wear them in SL. Then you should be able to see exactly how the front and back of the template fit together on the avatar.

I have been running into this problem but I think it got it down but I had help. What I have been doing is a lot of is experimenting and practicing. Also using Robin's UV suit and prims to examine more where I want things for frame of reference has helped too. But you could also do that with Chip's UV suit. At first I did the spaghetti straps too close to arms but now that I see where they showed up next time I have better idea where to put them. I have been using AV painter so I can see design in more 3d. Only issue is with application is that it doesn't always show a transparent background depending on what you're doing. And it does take bit to figure out things and you can't always see the mistakes you've made but eventually things start to make sense with more practice. Someone suggested a 3d paint application but most are just way too expensive 2500 L$ seems a whole lot cheaper and only 10 usd versus spending other 3d paint applications out there.

They made it much more difficult to match across the torso seams than it needed to be by making the back side of the template smaller than the front. There's stuff on the template to try and make it easier for you. You can tell what seams connect together by comparing the seam labels. Connecting seams are bordered by a block of the same color and share the same alphanumeric label. Then you can tell what individual polygon edges connect together by looking at the multicolored stripe along the outside. Connecting polygons have the same color edge. You can just also count then from either end of the seam. Forth up from the bottom will connect to forth up from the bottom on the other side of the seam. From there you can get down to within a pixel or two by looking at the small grid lines within each polygon. The second grid line up from the bottom of the bottom of that polygon will connect to the second grid line up from the bottom of the matching polygon on the other side, and so on.

I see how it all works now. I took the advice of one of the posters, and uploaded a targa of the templates, and put them on my avatar..and now..I understand how it all comes together! Gawd..I love these forums!!
