First off, maybe tell US what you do know about it.

I've never done photo sourcing (that's what it's called when you copy and paste a picture of an outfit onto the template). I do all mine from scratch.

I use Photoshop but I assume they aren't all the different. You will need to save the picture then get rid of all the background stuff. Copy the image over to the template. If there is no back then you will probably have to create one yourself.

As I said before I'm quite ignorant when it comes to PSP but I assume you will have to create a mask or alpha channel to determine what will be transparent and what will not.

You then save as a Targa at 32bit. Perhaps its differnt in PSP but that's how it is in PS.

I'm not very good at this tutorial stuff. If anyone can explain it better. PLEASE DO. :) Best way to learn though, for me anyway, it through trial and error. So, just go at it and see what you can learn.

someone told me for images ( photo sourcing as some may call it) just cut them out, right cliick and save to folder, where i can find it,then u would use a tool called selection tool,u would click it very carefully and zoom in. Then said to trace the outline piece by piece, take it to the outside edge, which i'm not sure where that would be,then told me to go to edit and cut out.... not exactly sure if this is when they are in the templates u do that... then she told me to delete all the layers in the template, but the simple outline is the only one i need, then add a transparent layer on top, then work on it,when done told me to delete the outline, thne i would have to mask it... not sure if this makes sense,i have tried it,and not having no luck... does anybody have a better way of explaining this to me please..... can this be done with tattoos as well

sky, i personally would start from scratch. Create a new 512x512 image with a transparent background. Then open up one of the avatar templates that you have no doubt gotten (chip's or linden labs) and drag that layer into your new image so it appears as a layer within the new image.

that will be your guide.

now, photosourcing is a tricky thing because of course no photo fits the dimensions and shape of the template perfectly. You need to get clever with how you place, stretch, compress and clone certain areas.

for example, take a sweater. find a picture of a sweater which is basically straight on. Open it up in PSP and drag a copy of it to the new file which includes the template (you might want to save a starter file with templates already in it). Make the sweater layer semi-transparent so you can see the avatar template layer behind it (or if the avatar template is on top, make that semi-transparent), and then resize the sweater picture so that it gets close to the body size of the avatar template.

ok... now that you've gotten that close, you'll need to fix it up. delete all the non-sweater elements of the picture. play with the image to create the kind of collar you want. One approach for a simple sweater would be to copy and paste some of the fabric from the body to make your sleeves (you can rotate it 90 degrees if there is a weave) -- and you might want to shrink it some too because of the stretching on the shoulders.

become familiar with the clone tool -- may take some trial and error... you will find this tool to be incredibly useful as you try to get fabric to cover the necessary parts of the upper body template.

then follow the alpha channel instructions already presented to you in other threads
