Hello ,

How do I make them ?
How do I make it that the alphachannel shows half transparency?
I know that white is nontranceparent and black is full trancparent, but I dont know how to adjust the greytones between .

For example ... I want Nylon Stockings... how do I make them half tranceparency?

I use Photoshop 7

Thx for help :)

wow looks like you are asking many stuffs, i am gonna try to answer as effectively as possible

Well the alpha channel is a grayscale map that is defining the transparency of your texture, if you havent played with it yet in photoshop, you can find it in the channel tab, where you have the red, green and blue channel, and if not you have to create the extra channel

basically, on the alpha channel, what is bloack will be transparent and what is white will be opaque

to create half transparent texture, you need to use shades of grey in the alpha channel
a 50% black will make your texture 50% transparent

a 100% black will make it 100% transparent

if you have any other more precise questions about the subject i will be glad to answer to them.

P.S. when you have finished dont forget to save it as 32 bits targa format!!

Opacity?

I'm confused. If you want your nylon stockings to be more transparent I would think you would want to reduce the opacity of the layer you painted them on, so you can sort of see through them...NOT the alpha channel, which will reduce the transparancy of the area around the stockings

changing the grayscale value of the alpha channel does reduce the opacity of the layer with the stockings on it in the finished file. there's a diff between photoshop transparency and alpha transparency.

disclaimer: some versions of photoshop with some TGA plugins can directly export your file with all the transparency you see when you're editting it. i'd say most versions need you to make an alpha channel though and that's the awesome way to do it anyways. :D

the transaprency in the stocking and around it are coming from the very same infortmation

32 bits targa use 4 channels to code color, red, green blue, then the alpha channel define if there is or there isnt transparency.

If you wanted them to be 100% opaque you would have the area of the stockings 100% white, and the rest of the template 100% black. For some degree of transparency have the area of the stockings a shade of grey. In your swatches pallet there are grey scales.

Select the area of the stockings. Go to the alpha channel and using the paintbucket tool fill that area with a grey. Select inverse, and fill the remainder with black. The lighter the grey the more opaque the stockings will be.
