hello i know it is something many seems to have asked but i still dont have seen any explaination on how to do them.

i have read tutorials i have downloaded all the templates and tried to work with them but i still can't manage to make a shade at all

i dunno which tool to use nor how to use them.

i tried to use burn and dodge but i only manage to do a real big mess. i end up with darker lines in the middle of all or with shapes that are not at all correct.

if someone could please explain how to do it point by point please with detailed explanation.

after 3 days of trying searching and reading i feel like dumb not managing to do a simple shade.

thank you

Burn and dodge are good for adding shadows on an overlay layer over a colored layer (not black/white). There is an excellent tutorial in the 4th issue of SecondStyle Fashionista on this technique.

You might also try something like this:
- create a new layer
- using the paintbrush with a brush that has a blurred edge (not a straight edge), draw in your shadow roughly where you want it to go.
I find this easiest to do with all the layers turned off except:
- clothing template
- one white layer, set to 50% transparent

once you are finished painting your shadows:
-make a copy of the layer, turn off the original layer
- go in with the smudge tool and smooth the lines, blurring them so they aren't so harsh

Play with blending options on the shadow layer too, sometimes that works.

There isn't a magical formula for shading, it's mostly just trial and error.

Hope that helps :)
