Hello Everyone! I thought I would contribute with my little straw to the haystack, to make the creative dreams of all you wonderful SL people easier to realise! I use these as guides for aligning clothes, and to have more control in general of how the design will look in-world, without having to be in-world. Saves a bundle of time, hassle and toggling between programs and computer power. These files are a of a female shape wearing Robin Sojourner's UV templates in-world, from various angles. Female because most clothes are for females. Unless you make your own, I could make a male version too, if there is a demand for it. Its mostly upperbody and pelvis. The lighting is Noon, and I tweaked the shadowing a bit so its easier to see how the light falls. Have these open in your graphics program while working with the flat templates and gain more control of your creativity! Well, I hope this helps someone, they help me!) If you haven't already downloaded Robin's templates. What are you waiting for?! http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLPages/AVUVTemplates.html(Thank you, thank you for being so genious and generous Robin!!) Bye! Chance

UV map worn on Male figure in-world
04-05-2007 22:36
Hi, Thank you so much for posting the female version. I know that you did it because there is more clothing for female avatars than male ones. If you do not mind, I would love to have a male avatar version. Perhaps then, it will be easier for clothing designers to create outfits for the poor, clothing-deprived men in SL. Thanks again for the other pics. Shaine

This is a great thing to do. I recently have been using them to help me with designing. The one area that causes me grief is the crotch area as things really get confusing there. I put on the UV skin then my clothing to see where I have to edit them.
Thanks for putting these in this thread. I think Robin has these in world free at her texture tutorial.

If you're into creating clothing and you want to put them on a model offline before you upload them I suggest you also look at the SL Clothes Previewer: /109/47/141938/1.html

The males in SL are ALL morphed female figures. There is no difference in the UV mapping, the women just streach the mesh differently than the men do.

Thanks for putting these in this thread. I think Robin has these in world free at her texture tutorial. The crotch area is totally crazy! One pixel in the wrong place and it's a mess... It is also hard to see the UV map there as everything stretches in that area, when worn. Yes, you can get the UV maps as skin and clothes from Robin's texturing tutorial place, in Benton. (I think that is the region name). GO there! Bye! Chance

I have made snaps of the UV suit for my own use - but you have made perfectly optimised images that I will now use instead of my own - thanks!
One suggestion - a 'three-quarter' view of the body to help with lines that move from front to side.
Another thing I would have found useful - pics of the UV showing how for example a pair of panties looks on the 2d model - as has been said it's not an easy or intuitive line and many clothes makers and sellers have not got to grips with this.. hmmm - maybe that should be my contribution...
Thanks again Cat x
