I posted about this in Technical but I figured everyone here might wanna know that Prism textures look like they're totally borked up right now. If you're zoomed out, they'll look fine, but zoom in and you'll get... stuff like this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/salenstormwing/BadPrismTexture.jpg

Its more than prisms - any rectangular surface that's been taperd now does this.

I can see where Linden Lab was headed with this (and, in fact, asked for it early on in my time in SL) and I appreciate that to some degree, but...

No warning? No discussion? Have they not yet learned the lesson about options? Sheesh! Make this behavior an optional one, LL!!

Thanx Salen and Jillian--I replied to your SL Answers posts too...

I've got this thread bookmarked. I'm going to ask our graphics gurus about this. In the meantime, please send me any examples--of inworld content--which visibly demonstrate this--as well as earlier photos of how it's *supposed* to look if you've got them. Thanx!

I think it screwed up when they allowed prims to be tapered both sides.

It's also happening to tortured prims. I've got a planter whose mortar lines take a while to go straight.

Its behavior seems to be related to the LoD problem. I hope the LoD problem's fixed in the next update. I have a feeling that if that's fixed the texture issue might be fixed along with it.

I PM'ed Torley with this, but I'll post it here, since Torley's got this bookmarked. I'll try and explain what each picture is in some fashion.

Here's the base grid texture I use for my stuff. You'll be seeing it a lot.

Here are two examples of what the top should look like on the aircraft with the textures, as they were originally made for back during 1.6.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/salenstormwing/SL/Delta-7-Texture_002.jpg

Here are three examples of how the base grid texture looked over the original aircraft.

Here's how the grid texture looks over the aircraft now using the DEFAULT setting for prisms, NOW.

How the real texture looks on the aircraft when laid out.

How the real texture looks on the aircraft when laid out, and the camera is zoomed far back.

I hope these help. Let me know if you need any other pictures or screen caps.

Thank you graciously to Salen and others who sent me all these Before/After examples of content visibly being changed by this borked-up problem. I've formally got it entered for LL Development and Quality Assurance to check out ASAP

I witnessed it myself--including applying a texture to a tapered box (Taper X = 0.50 and Taper Y = -0.50) and zooming in and out.

I've captured video of this too (I find video bug reports are useful for things like this):

Many apologies. This is an unintended side effect of tessellating primitives for better lighting. We are working on a fix now and will have something as soon as possible. In the mean time, I encourage builders to use planar texture mapping on prisms, as the currently deployed default texture mapping for prisms is buggy.

Thanks Runi for the update on the situation. Glad to know that things are in the works to fix it. And thanks Torley as well. Hopefully we'll have this all ironed out by 1.10.4.

Although I did have a little hope that the LoD issue might be the reason the textures were weird. Oh well. Now we know.

Not only PRISM, but tapered BOX as well! And I've already fired 4 bug reports if any developer ever notice them!!!

Planar texture you say? Do you know how HARD that is to be done on my Geo-dome!?! My perfectly textured dome become SCREWED right now and even worse in 1.10.3! My texture wasn't designed for Planar. How long will there be a patch fix? A week? Or yet another month or more? Or do I have to redo my whole things again!?!

Sorry for sound harsh, but it look so horrible right now i don't even want to look at them. Not to mention ruining my business as well. And don't you should have tested it before applying widely-effect changes YET AGAIN?!?

Let me be the first to say... "SQUEE!"

*proceeds to do the happy dance*

I don't have to give 100+ folks updated Jedi Starfighters now. Now thats an update I can enjoy. Thanks Torley! Your the bestest! Well you and whoever fixed the texture issue in the coding department, but yeah, you're on my Christmas card list... if I remember it at Christmas! ^^;

Awesome, that fixed my issue too! I'm glad we got such a quick response on these two issues.
