Hello All!
I am new to SL but have really enjoyed reading through these posts and learning how to make textures using the templates from SL and Robin and using the clothing previewer from John. My next project is to learn how to make what I beleive to be called prim clothing - or clothing that exists in 3D. Am I in the right forum category for this information? If not, where should I be looking? I have searched pretty dilligently for this info, but alas, have come up empty handed. I am using Photoshop CS to create textures. Is there another program used for prim clothes or a tutotial I am missing? Thanks to all, Yas

Prim clothes are made, as you'd guess, from prims. That's in-world building, and you'll probably find tips in the building forum. You might not, it's fairly uncommon for a variety of reasons - the main one being that prim clothes fit badly between avatars - I bought a set of prim armour, it's really detailed and beautiful. It took me about 3 hours to adjust it to fit...
Prim skirts, scarfs and hats are the exception to this. Adjusting a good prim skirt can still take a while... I bought a beautiful outfit with a prim skirt recently, the shape of the skirt was such that simply stretching it all and repositioning slightly wasn't enough (that's usually only a couple of minutes work), and I have to go in and edit about 1/3 of the prims individually... suddenly it was up to 20 minutes or so.

Thank you Eloise! I have struggled myself with a prim skirt that refused to be adjusted to fit easily, ao I can understand what you are talking about. I have seen some really sweet outfits, though, and I am dying to try to make them. Thanks for the 411. i appreciate it, and I will check out your wares! ps: what did you use to edit each individual prim in your skirt? TY!

From: Yasmina87 Pink ps: what did you use to edit each individual prim in your skirt? TY!
Go in Edit, and make sure you have "Edit Linked Parts" little box checked. Then all you need to do is click on individual prims, one by one, and fix them. I must add that I do a lot of prim stuff in my boutique, I love the style it gives to an outfit when you have prim sleeves mixed to normal clothes, etc. Eloise had a point there that it might not always be easy to resize, and I know what I am talking about because my avatar is uber-small in height and fat in weight LOL! So I have to resize 99% of the stuff I buy, especially shoes. However, when I hear the "time" spent fixing, I would say last time it took me more then 15 mins was back a year ago when I didn't know what I was doing. I would say that with more practice, and assuming you will keep the same shape, you get so used to it it only take a few minutes. You get used to your body shape and you get used to the tools. But, on the other hand, I am a designer so it's easier. And most of your buyers might not be designer, probably never built or tried the tools, so get ready for IMs asking help. :) Good luck and have fun!

I think it depends quite a bit... having posted this one I did two today... 5 minutes tops for the pair of them, but they're basically one prim for the skirt band, then some prims for the body of the skirt.
The one that was 15 minutes had twiddly bits all over, particularly at the back and front in the centre of the body... adjust that so it sat over the curves for my bum rather digging in... it was lots of tweak, tweak and tweak again because there were enough bits in there it just took a while to do.
I don't claim to be an expert builder, but I certainly build OK and know the tools. It can still take a while because when you're tweaking your tweaking their design and to some extent deciphering it - that can take a while too.

TY Elka, and again to you Eloise. Is this also the same editing principle used for prim hair? (I had a rough time with that at first!) What about flex hair? Is that an animation?

Yes, same principle.
Um, no, or not in the sense you mean. If you make a box or cylinder prim (or things like a pyramid that are basically pre-shaped variations) then choose the features tab one of the things on the list is flexi (the other is light).
Flexi prims do funny things... the centre of the prim shifts to the centre of the low z face (the "bottom" of the prim), the prim becomes phantom and can't be made physical, and a few other things. Then it's play with the numbers to see what looks good.
