I am just beginning to use PSP. One of the things I would like to figure out how to do is to make a texture with only the text showing up. I have done it the hard way by creating the text and the using an alpha channel to wipe out the background, but I am sure there is a way to eliminate the background without going through the tedium of removing it in pieces. I would appreciate someone telling me or pointing me to a source that would explain the necessary steps.
Thanks, Mod

I'm curious why you think using an alpha channel is "hard" and why it involves "removing it in pieces". It's a 2-second operation at most. Just do the following: 1. Put your text on an otherwise transparent background. 2. Go Layers -> New Mask Layer -> From Image. 3. Go Layers -> Load/Save Mask -> Save Mask To Alpha Channel 4. Delete the mask and save the image as TGA. That's all you need to do. If those 4 steps are really too much for you though, then here's a two-step version: 1. Put your text on an otherwise transparent background. 2. Save as PNG.

Chosen cut right to the heart of it.
I would otherwise multi-select the background using RGB color all at one time and then create the mask from selection, and hide the selection. ... or the inverse, create the mask from your vector text and show selection. Then continue with the remaining steps Chosen laid out.

there's a few ways to actually do it in psp, my recommendation is this create transparent background create text as floating selection. save selection to alpha channel defloat text (right click BG) save file as tga
dunno about other suites, but psp lets you save selections to the alpha channel as well and it cuts out having to create a mask first, to view it create a mask from alpha channel, then view mask
