I styled my own long, loose hair, and I'm generally happy with the results. It's made the usual way, with fixed prims for upper base, with long flexi prims attached. Like with lots of prim hair, the flexis are alpha to give whispy edges, and I get a bit of alpha clash, which I can put up with. But when I view myself from a distance, the back of my head starts to get bald bits. Presumably this is to do with the alphas too - but is there a way I can fix this? I've seen other people with the same problem, but most don't have it.

I have no idea if it actually works and it is probably a lot of work, but how about placing the texture on the hair pieces via the script method where you use the UUID, rather than dragging the texture on to them?
All I can say is that I have started doing this with all my alpha textures and the layer sorting problem appears less.

This is level of detail reduction with distance. It's normal for rounded prims. You need to make your hair larger, or use more pieces. You could also wear standard hair under your prim hair, but if you're going to sell it you can't count on your customers wearing the hair you prepare. They may wear a bald piece instead.

I tried putting standard hair under, but I have long, fine hair and even with the standard hair set very close-fitting it shows through. I don't want to have 'big hair'! I used to have standard hair as the base, rather than prims, which worked sort of OK but it didn't give quite the right 'curtains' look I wanted. Thanks for help though.

I have had the same problem both with prim hair and with prim skirts, whether they have alpha or not. I found the solution is to simply move the prim slightly away from the body.
