That was too long for the title lol. But if I create an article of clothing and think it's worthy of being produced in several different colors, how do I do that without completely starting from scratch for each color?

Thanks!

well, if it's a shirt, for example, you can change the tint of the shirt rather than using an entirely new texture. This however, has limitations because it tints everything, so you can't take a tan shirt with yellow buttons and make it a green shirt with yellow buttons -- the buttons will be tinted green too.

if tint doesn't work for what you need, you'll need to do it in the texture and there are lots of different approaches. One is to work in layers (have the shirt on one, and the buttons on another) so you can change the color of one without affecting the other.

well.. presonally I do not use photoshop.. it is very expensive and a resource hog...

Not that I have not used it before.. I've used it to the boards.. put a full page ad in rolling stone magazine for a comapny I worked for.. learned how using quark express on a mac.. took about 2 weeks to learn and complete. I rock..

anyway.. I use picture publisher by micrografx... has a lot of features like photoshop, and some that PS does not.. unfortunately, it got up to version 13 I think.. now out of business. I use picture publisher version 8... you should be able to find it on the 'net thru some research.. perhaps on EBAY.. anyway.. aside from that jab at adobe.....

Regarding colors on your clothing... try making a shirt in shades of Grey.. then adding color to the image using the texture tab......... it works alright....

I had something to recommend but forgot what it was.. anyway. IM me in SL or thru AOl, ICQ, MSN, YAhoo, or IRC.. I use trillian.. www.trillian.cc it supports all those messenger apps...

I'd be happy to answer questions you might have and help you use the graphics proggies if you need

Quick thing to remember: Layers are your friend.

If you use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Fireworks, or any other
image software that uses layers, take advantage of them. One
thing you can do is create a plain grey shirt on the lower layers
and then put buttons and such on the upper layers. When you
want to change the shirt color or button color individually, all you
have to do is open up that layer and play with the color settings.

Also layers will let you 'experiment' with new things without worrying
about having to make use of the undo feature.

The easiest way to do it is to go to Image-->Adjustments-->Hue/Saturation and play around with the sliders. Hope that helps. :)
