I made a basic prim skirt that works very well when textured with a solid color.
But when I try for a "real" texture, and set it to only repeat once along the length of the prim, as soon as I close the Edit box, the prim rezzes, and it's doubled or tripled. When I open the edit box again, the "Flip" boxes are checked, and a setting to repeat 3 times down the length of the prim.
I've tried as many things as I could think, but I'm still fairly new to the entire concept of prim making, so I'm sure I'm overlooking something.

That's interesting behavior. I wonder .... I assume that your "prim skirt" consists of several flexi panels all linked as a single object. Right? It sounds as if your problem may be that you are not editing the things that you think you are. Sometimes SL will let you apply a new texture to every prim in a linked set at once, but not always. To be sure that your new texture is applied properly to all panels in the skirt (and perhaps not applied to a waistband, bow, or other attachment), try editing each panel individually. Check the "Edit Linked Elements" box and then make your changes. Incidentally, that's the *only* way to change some other characteristics of your skirt, like its flexi parameters.
Remember, also, that the "attached" end of each panel in your skirt -- the end that is linked to neighboring panels at the skirt's waist -- was actually the "bottom" end of the panel when you created it. If you want your texture to appear right-side up, you do need to check the vertical "flip" box when you apply the texture to each panel.

I'm using a script that multiples one prim - so I only make one flexi panel, and the script duplicates them for me. But on that one base prim, I cannot get the texture to not repeat at least two or three times, which really screws up the texture of the prim.

Hmmmm.... Frankly, I've never seen the problem you described, and I can't think of a good reason for it now. It's hard to tell from a distance exactly what steps you are following. The way you describe it, it sounds like a problem texturing the single skirt panel (prim), not a problem with the script you use to link them. Still, there might be a way to clean up the problem after the fact .....
Is that Ged Larsen's Loop-Rez? If so, maybe you could try re-applying the texture after the skirt panels are all rezzed and linked. As you probably know, until you finish building the basic skirt and issue the "/1 done" command you can change parameters on any single panel, then Touch it, and the new parameters will propogate to all other panels on the skirt. Even after you have finished building, of course, you can still change the textures one panel at a time.
I'm really fishing here.

Well, starting over from scratch helped with the other skirt I was making, but there's one that just won't seem to stop, so I'll scrap it for now until I have the time to keep trying it over and over ^^
Thanks for your help.

That's a real bummer, Ivy. If it's any consolation, I have just had a similar problem on a much simpler project. I made a flexi prim scarf yesterday, applied a texture to it, and then made several copies. I then edited each copy by applying a new texture to it so I had a collection of ten different scarves. I logged on this morning, took one at random from inventory and wore it, and discovered that it had the original (default) texture on it instead of the one it was supposed to have. About half the scarves in the collection reverted like that overnight. I don't know whether you and I have discovered a bug in the current RC viewer, or whether SL is having server problems, or maybe evil is loose in the world. Maybe if we are lucky everything will clear up by itself.
