So my darling husband bought me a macbook for christmas. Got my Tablet and PS cs ready to go so when we are away from home I can design.....but grrrrrr

so here is my problem. I draw I desgin and I need and Alpha layer. I make it just as I have on my PC a million times, and they alpha channel just does exist when i re opn the tga file to check it out. Instead my image that I thought I had added an alpha layer has that fun white edge to it.......Im probobly not explaining myself well here as I am salef taught with PS and such. So now I am away from home and my PC for 2 weeks and freakeng out because I dont think I can design if I cant figure this alpha channel problem..any ideas??

1: Save the master image in Photoshop format first, not directly to TGA. Saving as TGA flattens the image, leaving only one layer plus one alpha channel.

2: Re-read the sticky note on dealing with transparencies, at the top of this forum. Chosen Few explains in detail how to eliminate that halo of white around the alpha edge.

3: Make sure when you do save a TGA that you save it as 32-bit tga, and that you only have one alpha channel. Hiding all but one alpha channel won't do. If you want to keep extra alpha variations in a Photoshop file, store them in a hidden layer set, and copy and paste them to the aplha channel as needed. I do this a lot with my window masters, so I can have the alpha-mapped window and curtains shown from both sides of the frame and with the curtains in various positions.

4: Breathe. I work exclusively with Mac, and I assure you Macs and Photoshop can do transparency and TGA's just fine.

What Ceera said. I've got nothing to add except my standard response to "alpha layer":

There's no such thing as an "alpha layer". It's an alpha channel. This forum is the only place on Earth where people have the unfortunate tendency to use the words "layer" and "channel" interchangeably. In truth, layers and channels are entirely different things, and should always be talked about as such. Please don't confuse those new to graphics by using incorrect terminology. Thank you.
