I am making a tactical holster for a gun consisting in a belt, a strip that goes down to the holster, the holster itself and a leg strap. Problem is, if I link everything together it al falls out of place when I move. I have considered maling a joint between the belt and the strip so everything will move properly hen the av moves the leg forward, but I don't know how the joint stuff works. Is the joint the answer to my problem? if so, is there any tutorial I can read about it?
Thank you very much, it's the first item im building and im pretty new at all this.

Hi Ursula. Welcome to SL. Don't use joints, ever. They've been broken since day 1. Just so you know though, even if they were reliably functional, they still wouldn't help you in this case. Joints are function of the physics engine. Objects attached to avatars have no physics. So, even if you could get a joint to work the way you want for this item (which you couldn't), it would cease to function as soon as it's attached. What I would probably do in this case is have the belt and strap be clothing items, and have only the objects that need depth be prims, such as the holster and the gun. Paint the belt and strap onto your clothing, and then also paint a wide vertical line running up the leg to connect the two in the area where the holster will be attached. The vertical line should be slightly wider than the holster and should be the same color. This will help the prim holster blend into the clothing. Assuming everything is well painted, it should look great. Another option would be to make everything out of prims, but it's gonna be less reliable. Attach the belt to the pelvis, and attach the holster, gun , and strap to the upper leg. To hide the spearation between the belt and the holster that's going to occur as the av moves, I would paint the clothing underneath to match, similar to the above instructions.

I would go Chosen's way too. If you really don't want to interfere with clothing layers (can be important) then you could try a particle effect between the two parts of the holster and belt system. It won't work 100%, and can be a pain to set up, but if you really, really can't use a clothing layer then it's the only real alternative.
One that might also work is a different approach, a holster with only leg straps. You could do that either way (clothing or prims) because you are then attaching to only one body part that doesn't move relative to itself (no joints of the anatomical sense). It's not what you want, but sometimes comprimise is the best way forward and it could look good.
