Not sure if this is the correct forum but I'll give the question a shot...
making a Goth skin but it applies to other skins I have tried as well but it shows most clearly. In creating the skin the end result has the eye lashes appear to be messed up .. like it has lost coloration... I can't find anyway or any where to address or modify this... can anyone point me in the right direction???

From: Lucien Svarog ... the eye lashes appear to be messed up... I may be barking up the wrong tree here because I am not sure I understand your question. However, in the Appearance dialog, there are some sliders that allow you to add eyeshadow, mascara, etc to your eyes. Apparently, the defaults include a certain amount of mascara, because my Avie went around with it for weeks before someone finally told me how to get rid of it. So, anyway, if your eyes do not appear to be correct, you might look for the eye makeup settings to see if the problem is something that is being added by the appearance defaults. Good luck!

I think you may be talking about the eyelashes - which need to be transparent so the skin color does not coat it. It is in the upper right hand corner of the face template and I would suggest using Chip Midnight's detailed face template to help out on this - it actually shows how much of the corner is occupied by eyelashes.

Your problem can be solved by using the file called head_alpha.tga in your SecondLife/character folder of the SL install. Copy it and paste it into your skin file on a new alpha chanel, invert it, and use it to select out the portion in the upper right surrounding the eyelashes. That is the model used by the software to trim the textures that get baked into the final head texture in game. Make sure that the remaining eyelash portion in the upper right of your texture is black, or whatever color you wish the eyelashes to be. Also, if you want the eyelashes to default to black all the time, just erase, or select out the remaining eyelash portion on your skin texture, and the default color layer will bleed through. This is the layer where the actual eyelash color originates on the default Linden skin.

I have a Q related to this... eyelashes. All the times I've made head skins, if I put the eyelash alpha in or put a dark color there for the eyelashes. I get this funky caterpillar (for lack of a better term) on the back of the avie's neck. Ugh. Has anyone discovered how to prevent that? Its so hinkey....

When I have attempted skin, I found that cutting a bit of the mouth section off, helped with that line.... and didnt affect the mouth.. but mebbe thats just me

Hiya Mirra. It must just be a coincidence. Nothing in the upper right of the head template affects the back of the neck at all. The most common cause of unintended stuff on the back of the neck is have the mouth portion of the texture too wide. The mouth layer on the LL template, and the mouth included on a lot of old makeup tattoos have that problem.

Anyone else that is experiencing similar problems on the back of the head/neck can use this image file as an alpha for selecting the mouth area on your skin. No neck bleed will occur with this file. Or, use one of Chip's wonderful templates and create your own mouth area.
