What do you prefer to use to texture sculpts? I don't mean make scuplted prims, I mean texture them.

I use Paint Shop Pro 7. Use it for all of my texturing - sculpted and plain prims. It's a bit more work than PhotoShop but it's way less expensive.

I use ZBrush 3 to sculpt and paint my sculpties. Zbrush allows me to paint directly on the surface of the sculpted object, with photos or freehand colors. After painting on the object I take the texture map into Photoshop for some touch-ups and resizing before uploading to SL.

That would be very handy, how much does Zbrush cost?

I use 3ds Max and bake a texture map at the same time I bake the sculpt map, then if I need additional touchup work I do it with GhostPainter2 so I can paint on the sculpt surface. The more complex the sculpt shape the more difficult it is to try and texture it without using baking or 3d paint.

ZBrush is a bit expensive, although not ridiculous. It's about $475, $320 if you can convince the vendor you are a student.

I've been using Blender (free) for both modeling and texturing. Blender also allows painting directly on the model and has a huge materials library for free download.

If you are interested I have been holding a series of workshops on Making sculpted prims with blender, (Thursdays 2pm SLT beginner, 3pm advanced) where I will be demonstrating several techniques of texture painting and materials mixing in upcoming sessions.

while I haven't tried it, the plugin for wings 3d can allow you to texture now. (i have used the plugin in the past just not the most recent version.)

Are there tutorials for *texturing* sculpted prims in Blender? I'm pretty satisfied with my not-quite total lack of command of Blender but have had no luck trying to texture in it.

If no tutorials, does any have some quick tips? I'd like to be able to draw piping and rivet lines on my sculpties.

Thanks.

I am interested in your class been trying to make sense of blender for over 10 years most I can seem to learn is hit the exit button.
If I am awake I would love to come to your class. Can I contact you?
Issue for me with blender is understanding the different features and seeing them.
Their so much there to see and its overwhelming for me.

The Blender tutorials weren't all that helpful for texturing, for me anyway.

Is there anything out there that allows you to texture directly on your sculpt other than Blender, that is free?

Of course, anytime. I am in Europe so I have tried to find a time that works for both EU and US. If there is a time you would like to see a course, please drop me a line and I can make arrangements.

Learning Blender is a layered kind of thing, you have to have a command of each feature before moving on to the next. I am putting the finishing touches on my next guide that shows how to texture paint and explains basic materials in Blender.

My course follows the guides, this week I am going to demonstrate 3 great mesh modeling techniques. Next week I should be getting into more texturing where I'm sure your questions can be answered.

Not knowing exactly where you are with Blender, I would suggest looking into the 'texture paint' mode where you can paint on the mesh, or using an image as a material and projecting it onto the mesh.

i work pretty much the same way excepted i rebuild a copy object with as much surface and material details as possible, Usually the photoshop step is then merely for resizing and alpha work (if needed). It's derivate of a common work flow used in recent 3D games

I have been ill so I haven't had much time to figure out anything out but I finally figure out how to do texture mapping successfully but it wasn't with sculpties I used regular prims.
The faces on these tinies and bathing suit I did.
Just wanted to share my first successful attempt at texture mapping.
